Old engine/donor removal.

Almost ready for extraction lol :o Waiting on my buddy to give me back my load lever for the cherry picker so I can finally get it outta the car. I'm gonna hold onto this KA for donor parts.

Moar pics! :) Took out what I could today from the engine bay.....after wasting 2 hours at Harbor Freight trying to get my replacement compressor. Some strange individuals that work there I tell ya. I got this far:

Small update:

I found out why my cruise control wasn't working. It appears that someone was fiddling around with the gauge cluster already and forgot to plug the harness back into the button control lol this plug below.

Image

I also removed the heater/AC assembly to gain access to the wiring harness:

I'm almost there with removing all the engine bay stuff to get it ready for fresh paint.

Small update:

Work has been crazy for the past 2 weeks and I didn't have any motivation what so ever to work on the car. Well today I decided to get some work done because I felt guilty about not working on it in a while hehe. I went ahead and removed the battery tray. I plan on relocating it to the trunk so there will be no need for it anymore. I also went to town on the whole engine bay with Scotch-Brite. I started around 10:30 am and got done around 7pm. My arms are burning lol. Here are some pics:

This is what helped me get through today lol

Next step is to take care of all the exposed rust I discovered after cleaning the bay. Luckily, it didn't chew all the way through the metal, it was just surface rust. I need to buy a new sandblaster as the one I'm using is a piece of crap. Then I can finally lay the paint down.

Small update:

After cleaning all of the dirt/grime from the engine bay I discovered some rust near the top of the passenger strut tower and some more rust between the firewall/wheel well on the drivers side. After taking a wire wheel to it I found out the rust has gone all the way through :( I guess this Zenki wasn't rust free as it appeared to be when I was looking to buy it. Oh well, atleast it's not as bad as my other Zenki. I have already fixed the rust spot on the strut tower and I'll try to fill in the firewall/wheel well area with some sheet metal as I had to cut some of it out. Then bondo, sanding and then I can finally lay the paint down. I used rust neutralizer by MOPAR on all of the rust spots, rinsed it and then put some one-step primer on it to cover exposed metal so that it wouldn't rust just sitting there waiting for paint. I don't plan on getting too crazy getting this bodywork done. After all, it's not like the engine bay is visible from the outside...Here are some pics:

Small upgrade for my air tools as well :)

Small update again: Tell me what you guys think:

Took some cardboard and cut out some mock-ups of the yet to be cut stainless to fill in what I cut out off to get rid of bad rust. I will NOT be wleding anything as I don't have a welder and I do'nt feel like gutting the inside just to weld this up. Nicely placed rivets will do the job just fine. Once everything is secured I'll bondo the pieces on inside of the engine bay, smooth it out with some sandpaper and throw some primer over and then paint. On the wheel well side, I'm just going to primer it and then throw some heavy duty undercoating over it. Once again, if this was something on the outside of the car, I'd be buying a welder (maybe in the near future) but it isn't so rivets it is. Here are some pics:

Got a bit more done today. My awesome dad went out of his way again and made me a EGR block-off plate at work on a laser cutter. It's pretty sweet, you program the image you want cut on the computer, hit a button and magic happens and you got yourself a EGR plate ;) I'm freakin tired. Good night everyone.

Well, I am finally done with the engine bay clean up and painting. Once the paint cures completely I'll start bolting everything back up! (finally lol) I am SO GLAD I am done with this part of the project. Here's some blackberry pics but they suck, so I'll post better ones tomorrow.

Nope, CX racing - I know I know - I've spent a good chunk of my $ on the engine rebuild and since I'll be getting married in late fall next year, I have to build this thing on a budget for now (certain parts). If anything brakes I'll upgrade with better parts at that point, but for now, I have to finish this thing.

Yep I was willing to take a chance. Hopefully I can get at least a year out of it. I still have a long ways to go before the project's complete. Once I'm married and this turbo goes bad, I will replace it with a name brand. Thanks for the concern though :)

Hehe nah, they're stock S14 Condenser/Radiator brackets. They were rusty as hell when I took them off. I sandblasted and painted them. Looks 10x better :)

Decided to keep the AC :) I'll try to duct air the best I can in between the rad and condenser.
