i think it cost a total of $50 bucks or so for material and another $50 on grinding wheels and a non ferrous burr. I already had a spare manifold to cut up and the q45 throttle body.

I bought...
2 feet of 4" x 1/8" pipe
2 feet of 4" x 5/16" plate
and 1' x 2' x 1/8" sheet

I ordered it all online from metalsdepot.com

Would you be willing to sell a duplicate of your intake mani if i were willing to buy two? I can source my own q45 t.b, but if you were to make all the necessary brackets and such, how much for two shipped to ny, 11432? Good job so far man.

did you make the throttle body flange or did you have a pre-cut one?

yeah i made the throttle body flange. 3" hole saw, then reemed it out some more with a burr, and drill and tapped the bolt holes.

As of right now i have way to much going on to even think of making another manifold. It took a **** ton of hours getting it where its at right now.

Well i got the cold pipe done and mounted. I adjusted the throttle tension to adjust my idle since i got rid of my iacv. The q45 and ka tps sensor are the same but for some reason it was reading backwards on aem ( full throttle was 0% and vice versa) so i had to rewire it. I drove the car around the block and everything seems to be working great. Im hoping to get it to the dyno and have it tuned tomorrow, but we will see.

Got the car on the dyno to retune for the manifold. Made an additional 40hp, same 9psi of boost. Image

Interesting dyno.

Your car is making good peak numbers but area under the curve appears really small. With cams and a short runner intake manifold your car should make peak power well above 5600rpms. I would expect the hp to peak somewhere around 7000rpms. It also seems very laggy for such a small turbo.

I think that turbo is causing your narrow powerband and just about maxed out. It has a small compressor and a huge turbine wheel. The turbine wheel is larger than the garrett t350 wheel "stage 5" which is often matched with turbos that flow in excess of 60lbs/hr. However, i doubt that compressor will flow more than 35lb/hr.

I'm not hating, just giving my 2 cents. I think if you upgraded to a modern well matched turbo you would fall in love with you car all over again.

Nice job on the car and all the diy stuff you have made, especially the intake manifold. I like your style, well done sir.
RIP Nate(480sx)...

that'd be a tial alpha Q BOV, and yeah they aren't the best looking things around.

vids?! where's the vids?!

and i agree with Kfred, that turbo is a bottleneck on a otherwise nice intake & exhaust manifold combo, albet its making nice power at such psi.

thanks for comments, If I could afford it I would be running a new turbo. Regardless I feel that my current turbo still has some steam in it. The Porsche guys run this up to 20 or something psi, so i should be good for a few more. I am definitely loosing some power up top due to my cams being poorly degreed though.

nismo_dreaming's ka-t was installed that way and top end opened up, he lost bottom end though.

Thats the same way I installed mine. I dropped mine in about 3 years ago. Hate to say it, but I think your top end loss is comeing from another area. You have one of the most clean cars on the site man. Love what your doing with everything. Keep it up, and I'll keep drooling ;)

Nice build! i love the gauge pod. i was just wondering though if your intake mani and IC piping was TIG or aluminum MIG welded? I want to buy a TIG welder but i may have to settle for a MIG welder.

Your engine bay is so fresh and clean. Congrats on the new numbers. That's a lot of power for only 9psi.

Yeah it's because the Q45 TB rotates the opposite way compared to stock...you could have easily checked a TPS invert parameter in AEM and no rewire would have been required.

Looks like a great setup.

^ I asked how I could do that in aem from an aem sales rep at the sema show and he said you cant and I would have to rewire the tps, so thats what I did without anymore searching.

Awesome build man. I like you DIY approach. I'm learning to weld as we speak and I plan on doing more of my own fabrication.

What do you use the car for mainly? Streets, auto-x, drag?

Keep it up
