Cheap manifolds...

Post by Jordan Gladman »

Found this on a local forum, this was a guy running an ebay manifold on an SR. I've always thought the worst thing that could happen with a cheap manifold would be a crack that caused a huge leak and would require rewelding...

wrong.. bye bye GT3071RS

the little chunk that broke off went through his turbo and effectively destroyed it.

Something to concider... you might save a couple hundred on the manifold and end up losing a K.

nah... just double it up and consider some duct-tape... the heat resistant kind though.. Don't wanna melt it you know!

looks like that manifold was re welded at some time, it may of been the cause of the crack

Yeah ... that is a modified ebay manifold... somebody tried mig welding that and made it bad...

I have never seen an ebay manifold so crappy that it has debris that will break off inside and go into the turbo.

crack yes, but ruin a turbo with a chunk... this guy helped it with that horrid welding.

WoW, that's some good damage on a T2 bottom mount manifold/turbo...something was wrong. T2 bottom mount manifold are strong enough and usually don't fail.

..between the parts that are severly undercut and than the parts that barely penetrated, its no wonder it broke! (And I bet he welded over the original welds to "strengthen" them!) lmao!

If you have a ball bearing turbo like the one pictured. You might find that option to cost just like buying a new chra. Most turbo rebuilder will not touch BB turbo and for some that does well you get the idea.
