Updates to my car
It has been a couple of years since I've had the car out, but I have been slowly working on it. I swapped over to a Haltech Sport 2000 and Racepak dash, added a crank trigger, swapped the valve buckets to shimless DLC coated, added a new throttle body and charge pipe.

I was running the stock cas with a 12 window wheel. It worked fine, but with all of the valve train "noise" picked up thru the chain, the timing moves around a little. I still use the cas for the home signal, I just wanted a more accurate trigger. The whole setup cost me $25, so no big deal. Between the trigger and much lighter valve buckets (even lighter than the supertech buckets) I hoping to turn a little more rpm.NPD wrote:Glad to see you back on it!!
Did you change the crank trigger because of the Haltech or did you have problems with your original setup?

They are the DLC coated cam followers from the VQ35HR. They are actually used on several different Nissan engines. They are not a direct fir for the KA, machining is required. Still cheaper than the Supertech set up. They are $18.76 from Nissan, and the Supertechs are about $26.00 with shims. Plus they are lighter and have no shim. They are difficult to machine though. If anyone is interested let me know.

This is only for guys with custom intake manifolds, big cams, a huge turbo, and a red line over 7500rpms. Its one of those things where if you have to ask, you don't need them.drunknmunky wrote:noob technical question:
What is the benefit to going with a shimless bucket in contrast with shimmed?
At high rpms with an aggressive high lift cam the shims on the buckets can fly off and reek havoc in your head. To prevent this you can go to shim under bucket of shimless buckets. Shimless buckets are usually lighter also.

Ah. As in the cam hits the shim and may cause it to fly off, in contrast, others use the shim underneath between the bucket and the retainer..
Where can one pick up a set of those? are they typically custom?
sorry. post jack.
I'm building my head right now w/ some crower stage 3's and supertech valve train.
