EazyE's New-To-Me Convertible
Hey fella's. Just wanted to post up the new Vert' I picked up for my old lady. It's got a few issues, none of which I'm too concerned with. Just gotta give it a little TLC and the old lady and I will be out and about! Pretty clean considering what these cars go though.
I just have a list of 'here-say' about what's on/in the car. I'll make a list of what's really in it when I get it picked apart. Some things you can't see that I have verified are Tein springs/GR2 struts and an LSD. The rest is self explanatory.
Oh, and you might notice something in there that shouldn't belong. Don't worry, it's coming out soon enough...
Also, take a stab at what I paid for it.

It runs at about 70% if I had to estimate... It's running 450cc injectors with resisters, and an N62 all being 'tuned' with an SAFC. I figured with all the bolt-ons, I could make most of the money back. But honestly I'm trying to get the motor back to stock for right now to get rid of some variables for the crappy running.
It was showing 155/155/90/155 on compression cold, after sitting for 5 months. I was hoping for a valve or something to be a little icky.. But after the owner said it would puke oil at any boost pressure, I lost hope...
It hasn't puked oil yet, and I've made a few pairs of black marks at the house with it. Some of the vacuum lines are deteriorated, and there is a small block chevy PCV valve where the one is going to the intake manifold. I really think it's getting boosted from the PCV area in that spot.
But yeah, I'm looking for a full gasket kit, rings, and bearings for this spare KA I have here at the house. I have a harness, motor, 5-speed, and pretty much everything to swap it back to a KA. I'll take more pics after I clean it up a little, and get some door panels on it.
It's the girls car, so we'll see what direction she wants to take it.

On second thought you could see if you can hone / repiston/ring the cylinder.. SRs are decent by the engineering, i'd rock one if my car came with it.
Smoother, probably better on gas it could be worth saving for the GF and keeping the KA for yourself

Thanks guys.
I think I will try to get it running as well as I can with stock stuff at first. Getting rid of all the variables is going to be a priority.
Soon as I get my car back together and running, this will be next on the chopping block. It only takes money...
I paid 1k out the door with it. Clean title, and a Florida car. And it runs, just not good... lol

The SR might have a stuck lifter causing the crappy compression results. Especially with it having sat for 5 months, it's possible it could have collapsed in that time. I'd probably throw some seafoam into the oil and run it for awhile then give it a fresh oil change and see if it helps. OR drain some oil out, throw in a qt or so of transmission fluid. Start it up and let it warm up (just idling) then drain it all out and put fresh oil in. If you're lucky that'll do the trick.
I've also seen rocker arm's crack/break (remember most of these engines are 20 years old and beat on), so that's another possibility. Or the rings could just be sticking. lol I'm kind of rambling here sorry.
Nice find. I'm jealous. I'd have gotten the car as well for that kind of money. I enjoyed my SR when I had it and if it came in the car I'd rock it.

Is it a 'high quality' ebay china turbo?
lol @ ebay loves him
hopefully you have a current tetanus shot.. that steering wheel looks like it was stolen from an arcade machine
If it was cali you would have to smog it before you could put it in your name That causes all kinds of problems getting projects like this.

Yeah I agree.. this would never happen unless you put a stock KA with all the smog stuff in... the junkyards get a lot more cars out here im sure.
There are quite a few smog exempt areas in california, if it wasnt for that i would be forced to move.

Thank god Florida doesn't have inspection, or emission checks. If it has 4 wheels and a motor with turn signals, it's legal... lol That's why you can have a 'legal' titled and registered Skyline here without ANY issues. Just don't go out of state....
The turbo is an actual Garrett. It's a straight up T3. I think it's a Super 60 by the looks of it. I'll get some numbers and figure it out.
But the manifold is a T2 bottom mount, cut at the motor flange, and flipped upside down, and then a T3 flange welded on for the turbo. Total hack job, but it actually came out pretty decent.
I got the stock SR rail, injectors, and FPR in today. I'm heading over tomorrow to put that, and a stock MAF on it to see if it helps the running issue. Gotta take the SAFC out of the mix too...
Did I mention it's externally gated, and the wastegate exhausts right onto the turbo oil drain? lol
I'm having a blast with this thing
