Pretty much pulsed most of this. I hate to say it but the welding was very rushed. We tried to do it the best we could with the time. We had rented a friends shop with 220 and stuff.
Any tips? I would like to do fab as a career and im only 19 so now is the time to learn lol.

Well the biggest thing is slowing down, but I can understand your situation of renting a space to do it, and not much time.
A little more heat in the welds and I wouldnt have even commented on it. for mig welding, just straight up traveling along the joint with no torch movement does plenty fine. this technique makes for a super nice bead though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RrDeUKcH4.
Welding in a car is a whole different animal and takes time to get good at, even mig welding. If you want to do cages in the future, Id recommend notching some scrap and practicing welding them up.

Thanks for the constructive comments. We bent the entire thing out of 1 3/4x .095 DOM. My only regret would be to have tried to get the a pillars slightly closer. And of course welding inside a car is just going to take practice. Id say im satisfied with the rest of the turnout. Not trying to boast but this thing will far exceed what i have seen pass Formula D tech inspection.

99% of the time i agree with what you have to say. this is that one percent i dont. i understand time restraints and stuff, but i'm pretty sure i could fit a small child between the body pillars and cage pillars.TinyT wrote:Oh please, the guy is trying. The fit is fine.sloka-t wrote:the cage fits terribly. there's no reason those gussets on the A and B pillars should have to be so big unless youre trying to show off or something.

Looks good to me, I wouldnt have pulse Mig'd though. Just get the heat and wire right and position yourself comfortably so you can lay a super smooth weld. Try and get around the whole joint only stopping 1 or 2 times to reposition. Hit the welds with a low grit grinding disc and take off the high spots, it will improve the look without effecting the strength of the welds. You can even go over the welds with a finger and some body filler pre-paint.
The fit looks ok, but you might find your helmet bonking the A-pillar bar just trying to sit in your car. The front bars have to be quite tight to get a comfortable fit.

I heard rumor that they were going to 0.095" wall 1 7/8 dom
fyi " pulsing like that leads to uneven roots, and are a much weaker weld
pulsemig is actually somthing very different that what you think
not hating at all, love another sohc .

Wow, lots of clutter in here.
Jackask- I highly doubt they will go to 1 7/8. For anything under 3000lbs the book states 1 1/2 x .095 is minimum.
Jwrose- KTS coilovers. ISIS rucas, toe links, traction links. Cut knuckles, modified lca's custom moog outer tie rods, oem inner tie rods with spacers, battle version tension rods.

There are 2 ways to provide constructive criticism. Rudely and politely. 1 will put a persons back and up and cause them to be defensive, the other will evoke change.sloka-t wrote:he asked for criticisms you *****ng idiot.all shal perrish wrote:sloka-t wrote:

There is no room on this forum under any circumstance to tell someone to suck anyones cock. I didnt think 10 year olds could drive a car anywhere in the states, so it surprises me that someone evidently this young would be building a KA-T and participating on an online forum.

Looks good, definitely better than anything I could put together at this point.
I had a question about it though. I may be incorrect but I always thought the diagonal brace behind the seats (top right to bottom left) had to be the solid bar while the cross bar (shoulder height, straight right to left) is the one that is supposed to be cut. Does anyone know if that is actually from a rule book, or is it just more generally used because it's a better design?
