AZ KA-E back up motor
Hi, This is my build thread.
I'm the owner of AZrx7.com and have a S13 for a DD.
The single cam.
I got a hell of a deal on an extra single motor($20) so I grabbed it and am rebuilding it before anything goes boom on stock one in car.
At same time I plan to make it a simplistic tank. Easy to work on and able to plow through a brick wall and still run.
When I got it
-------------------------
Tear down.
Block:
Typical timing guide issue.....
Cam and crap
The head
I was told #2 was having issues before the guy pulled it.
You can see 1 & 2 were not happy. Not sure what caused it but don't care as long as it wasn't a block problem.
Stripping intake manifold of crap I don't want or don't know wtf it does.lol
Started
I sent it off to my friend to weld the new holes shut and seal off the butterfly holes on the lower manifold.
-----------------------
Now I'm slowly getting parts and putting it together.
Aircraft stripper to valve cover
Sprayed with a black with silver flake and then masked off
Then Gold and Wheel clear coat spray paint.
Possible ECU choice. I have absolutely no luck finding a U12 base BIN to start the process so I might be *****. I may have to ditch this and buy a haltech or motec m4.
New happy fun time parts!
Next step:
-Waiting on Eagle rods in mail.
-Waiting on 460cc injectors from S4 NA FC in mail
-Buy ARP bolts for all sorts of crap
-Then send block off to be inspected, bored out for pistons, decked, and have them put bottom end together for me.
-Get head sonic cleaned and maybe work the ports a bit.
-Maybe a cam?
-AN fittings for useless crap
And, this is my old DD and now drift slut

FC is a turbo swap with a 3mm apex seal atkins rebuild. All sorts of things done to it.
Aeromotive fpr, Walbro, 720cc secondaries, rtek 1.7 ecu, custom efi harness, NPR intercooler, S5 turbo, Taurus efan, FD alternator, Koyo rad, Full TII driveline, welded diff mount, MMR Delrin suspension bushing replacements, Ksport coilovers, BN knock off kit, sexy style vent hood.
It's dynoed at 200hp/199tq when it's 90 outside at 10psi.
// Yes, I'll be at XDC. I'm going tomorrow. See if any one needs an extra pit person
I was at Irwindale helping Ben Kunk out in the Orange S13.4.

procrastination update
I bought a turbo for a great price but it has downsides.
It's a KKK Blitz SR20 Kit turbo.
Upside, it's rebuilt and should make plenty of power
Downside, it's weird flanges and closest inlet is t28
Went with the ebay turbo manifold to see if I could make it work.
Log manifold is T3/4
The adapter piece is probably going to space it way too far. I have a feeling it'll be touching the strut tower which may lead to downpipe issues as well.
I might see if a local welder can make a slimmer adapter.
Still need to send the motor to a shop to get cleaned and assembled

Oh yeah, I also installed a Dakota Digital Fan controller and Altima E-fan on a Blackwerks radiator
It's programmed to do low speed at ON=175 Off = 173
High speed is On 180/ Off 175
I hacked the Dakota controller to be a temp display as well.
Factory it has a momentary switch to display the temp.
I desoldered the button and put in the switch you see above. I can now watch my temps when I want and then turn off the display whenever I want.

oh yeah,
I'm kind of wavering on finishing the car.
Upside is it can now be a missile car. Down side is amount of stuff I need to finish.
Back in July the dash harness ignition switch power wire went bad right after I lost AC(110+ outside). I'm also down to 3 exhaust studs holding the manifold on as the rest have stripped or snapped off in the head, so it's a fart machine right now.
I ended up having to daily drive my FC for a while and got pissed off and bought a new daily driver.
I now drive a plush 2003 G35 sedan. I'm finding it hard to keep interest in this project.
I've got the new G35, FC, and then Shell FC, and this S13 to keep up on.
If I sell the car plus engine parts I've accumulated, I can get a 20b for my FC. Very tempting.
Pics of the new sexy machine
Ksport coilovers, Strafe Poly Nismo bumper, ZSpeed skidplate, nimso sideskirts
