Don't let people get to you. You should take it as constructive critisiscm.
You stated that this is not your first system but your friends truck looks sub par. Even the fabric was not fitted right. Just do a better job next time. that is all.500hpKA240sx wrote:no offense taken this isnt my first sound system i have built. ill post pics of my friends truck i did.

Ur welcome glad to see you found what you was looking for. I know i told you devious, sorry meant to say greaser. Both guys have been around here for a long time, got'em confused...... Anyways good luck
edit: Wish i would have know your plans earlier and i could have pointed you right to the thread you found on fresh alloy, all you had to do was google m112 supercharged ka24de and it would have popped up. Oh well guess hindsight is 20/20 huh.

well its been along time since i had a decent update and now that winter is almost over i have had more side jobs to fund this build and i just got ARP head studs, new timing kit, and timing cover in today. to hove this thing running all i need are some 264/264 cams and new oem valve springs. my head is getting a 3 angle valve job and decked so it should be done in another week or two.
and does anyone know if there is a bolt/nut kit for our motors?? instead of hunting down every single bolt i would like to just buy all brand new ones anyways. and yes i do have 99% of them in labeled bags just wondering if anyone makes a kit. thanks in advance

The block does not look decked. Two things, the Cometic needs a 50ra on head and block to seal good.
http://cometic.com/faq.aspx#q4
Secondly, make sure the new lower timing cover is flush with the block height.

Hey build is looking good, I like where your going with it.
Supakat has a good point about the block being decked or surfaced. Pretty important with metal headgasket. Arp head studs will keep it from lifting, but sealing is a different story.
Having that head gasket leak and having to disassemble the whole engine down to resurface the block would be a pain. Not to make you worry but def something to really think about while your still in this position.
you could be fine though, im sure plenty of people got away with not doing it.
Good luck and keep it up.

We have some threads on here bashing Cometic. Mine is running good and my logs say I should be around 490whp. A lot of people are cursing Cometic, but I have to blame improper installation.jburgess86 wrote:you could be fine though, im sure plenty of people got away with not doing it.

idk guys my mechanist told me with just the head being done and the block almost perfect that there wouldnt be any problems at the time i had the block in kansas (different mechanist) was gonna charge over 150 bucks or some **** like that to resurface it.supakat wrote:We have some threads on here bashing Cometic. That is about what I paid.
I have two blocks that went into the machine shop, and one head for larger valves to be installed. $2000 later....
When I got one block back and I checked bearings, they didn't run in spec. I was running into issues, and it turned out it needed a line hone.
$2000 for
block a overbore and hone to match pistons
block a line hone
block a deck
block a cleaning and assembly
block b hone
block b deck
block b cleaning
head a 3 angle valve grind with oversize valves, and valve seal installation
It can be costly if you don't do it right the first time. When I found out I should have matched pistons to block, I stored the first s13 block and figured if I'm spending the money I'll send in the s14. This way, I have a s13 stock bore for backup.
a good machine shop will offer to lightly deck it with timing covers, and check your bearing clearences for you, and assemble if you want for a good price. But its up to you.

well i had my pistons matched overbore with hot tank for 300 and then the head is going to cost me around 250 with decking and 3 angle job so for a little over 500 bucks sounds like i got a good deal. the the cover is smooth across from block to cover so it should be good. so in a month or two it will be in and we will see what goes down.
