my car is still an automatic. I figure its not worth swapping until I swap the entire engine and tranny over at once. Technically its a DD for now.

Being I'm at work 2/3 of my life, This project has been going on way longer then most.

Question to all those with V3 cams and dual springs: when you turn your cams clockwise and the lobes are near the 'duration' did you experience a 'snap' as the dual spring actually turns the cam about 2 degrees? I sometimes fear my cams are a little too wild, and wonder how this will react when I have my timing chain on.
(mine are shimmed to 0.006 on the tight side due to there is no heat expansion on shims as 240sxtechdvds.org proved)

Once I have a timing chain on, maybe I'll post a video of what I'm talking about, because I'm sure they will have a little 'snap' even with the chain on. Those dual springs really keep everything closed, haha.

I think I understand what you're saying, and that's normal. The return pressure of the spring "pushes" the cam lobe out of the way causing it to spin quickly on its own.

That's normal, when turning at 13 times a second at idle and over 100 times a second at redline, there is enough speed there to keep ahead of it "spinning" on its own; there is enough drag.

that must be hard on the timing chain having that slight moment of slack, then a hard pull on it again.

I think I'm ready to put my lower timing cover on. So I can't seem to find my upper timing guides, I know I can remove the top one, but can I remove this other mystery one????
Image

edit: am I missing anything else that needs to be installed beside the chain, exhaust side guide, intake side tensioner and guide, and upper tensioner intake side?

EDIT2: Deleted both upper guides! KILLED BOTH as per

The only "guide" i use on the upper chain is the tensioner that goes on the left. I've never had the top or the right guide in place.

I still can't believe you just threw them in. BC and Crower should be the same though... so you think I should drop in and retard intake, and advance exhaust? aka, open the lobe up a little... that's what JWT said on the phone to me. :?:

another slight problem.

I was wanting to get my 65 Chrysler out of the garage and the 240 in so I could remove the engine, install the 5 speed and prep engine bay for clutter removal and paint.... but, now we have 6 inches of snow on the ground, and I have falken azenis with 1% tread left.

I don't know if I can get her in the garage for a while. The motor build will continue though, slowly.

Laughing at quitting your job then dropping a bunch of cash.

MotoIQ just did this article on degreeing cams - http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_articles ... -cams.aspx. Haven't read it but a lot of their posts are worth the read. But kedbmx knows a thing or two about making big power  so it's probably not bad advice.

kedbmx, did you just drop yours in and have you ever adjusted them? What cams are you using?
