LED tail light conversion....

Post by nissanist »

sooo...just finished up my s13 tail lights. i just stuck em on the car, ill have to get a pic of them installed. but i have some pics of them as i peiced em together. i bought a set at a time, learned the hard way and messed up alot by heating, cracking, and warping. got it down pretty good now....

Image

got a 100 pack of red and amber LEDs with resistors, marked and drilled that clear plate behinf the lenses.

Image

landed and soldered em up

Image

ran a line inside the third tail also

Image

i used a flat black to mist the lenses to get the tint look...and right after i cleared them the flat blended into the clear so it looks actually tinted....its not just like a bunch of lil black spots to make look dark.

Image

finished...

damn dude looks real nice! so how is the turn signal gunna work... like leave the full circles on like in the picture but then the bottom halfs will blink when on signal?

my friend was just talking about this the other day. he said he saw it on a coupe a while back. Hes got a FX35 and was thinking about drilling into the headlights and putting LEDs across the bottom like what you see on Audi's.

looks good

yeah i think im gonna leave the full cicle dim....then when i signal or apply the brakes it will brighten. it took alot of youtube and DIY vids to convince me to try it.....im wantin to expeirment on a few other vehicles and see what i could come up with...! now a fx35, that would look awsome....

Clear corners priced themselves out of the market for regular joes

Did you use resistors on your LED's? Search youtube for some how to videos, because when you do have a problem, it'll kill your lights all together.

You should build another set with superflux leds and leave the lens stock.

Can we get a link to where you got the LED's from? I had bought a few hundred back in the day of different types, and none were as bright as that.

Going to make an official LED thread for resources, OP didn't use resistors, and will probably run into problems later.
