Sorry, school has been kicking my ass recently. I haven't been on here in quite a while.
I will upload my current tune to Google Drive later, that one isn't correct.
As far as how flat my VE table is, I think that is due to the FPR changing fuel pressure so much. It causes the VE table to not have to change as much.
Good idea on the fuel enrichment, but I'm not sure. It sounds possible. But my current tune has different cold start enrichment, also.

Ah ok, that kind of makes sense. I still have a lot of learning to do with Tunerstudio, but your tune is a good way to get to know my way around the program. Let us know when you get your most recent tune uploaded, I'd like to compare it to what I come up with once start messing with mine. Thanks!

Edit: Just read over the enrichment stuff in the Megamanual, 100% is the whole fuel map, 110% is 10% over the fuel map. In other words your tune is correct, it should end at 100%.

Chris28 wrote:Just read your thread, especially the MS parts haha. I just ordered the KA PNP myself, I've downloaded your tune and have been checking it out in Tunerstudio, I have a few questions. First of all, how come your fuel VE table never goes above 100%? How are you tuning above 100 kPa? Also your cold start enrichment table goes to 100%, but the .bin I grabbed from my current tune (EFI Specialist) goes to 0. This could be because the stock ECU is additive so it just adds 0% above the stock map, whereas MS is multiplicative so the 100% is just 100% of the map, so all of it haha.

I'll probably either add you on facebook or be sending you some PMs, I'm sure I'll have more MS related questions haha. Thanks!

PS, I like what you've done to the car so far. My old setup was a t28, I really miss the spool time.
I just wanted to let you know that I updated Google Drive with my most recent tune. It is labeled MyCurrentTune.

Before my laptop died, I updated firmware to gslender 2.8. If you are using a IACV andhaven't cheanged to it yet, you really need to. My 240 now idles better than my 200sx, which is all stock. Also, I added table switching at 100kpa. The car runs so much better now. I intended to post some screenshots of the idle settings I have, but my laptop is still down.

Went to Driftober Fest at Beech Bend this past Saturday. There was a chassis dyno there, supposed to be $40 for 3 pulls. I got there a little late and they were packing up. So no dyno for me.

Hopefully I will be able to make it to a dyno day somewhere soon.

I finally upgraded to some coilovers. I got some HSD coils from a friend for next to nothing, so I couldn't pass them up, even if they are bad. I ordered some new tires and got a new battery, i should be back to driving it soon.
I haven't even really got to drive this car since it's been turbo. I had really worn old street tires on it. I have expected having to tow it everytime I drive it. Now I can really see how well it runs. 8)

It's a S15 helical. I have been waiting for a good deal for a long time, and I got this one for $200 shipped. It is supposed to be the best compromise between cost and performance. It won't work like a clutch-type if you lift one wheel; it will just go open.

Could you take a few pictures of the diff itself? Looks a lot like one I have laying around I am not using. Been trying to identify it for a while

The S15 helical is distinctive in the humps on the side that have gears in them. Like this: Image

I have read that it is necessary to have a shop properly shim the lsd when installing it into a differential, but I have also noticed that many people don't bother doing this and have no problems. What is your take on this?

Technically, yes you are supposed to. Most people don't, and for whatever reason, it works fine. I will double check, but it will probably drop right in. I'm not removing the pinion. Some have speculated it works without shimming because it is an OEM diff. I don't know.

As long as you put the shims back in the correct order, most of the time everything will still be within spec. I did check the gear mesh after installing mine. There are plenty of ways to do this with Prussian Blue, some grease, or they make actual gear marking compound.

Re: Finally going KA-T. Update: Finally got new tire and coi

Post by emo_tactical9 »

So I have been gone for a while. A brief update:
I moved to Bowling Green to attend WKU. I live in a **** little apartment with a gravel driveway. I haven't done any work to my car besides putting coils on the front and new tires.
I took my car to Beech Bend, I ended up with a best of 13.6 at 106. I think my 60ft was about 2.3. I only have one tire spinning.
I got a position as a Engineering Co-op/Intern at a local factory, and that has been taking up all of my time. I love it, and they pay me well so I am focusing on that mostly.
I hope to find a house with a garage soon, and I hope to be able to finally be able to move forward with my project.
I realize this is very brief, I am very tired. I will make an effort to come back here more often. I miss this place.

So I haven't been here in a long time, and there is a good reason for that: I have had little to no free time.
Between school and my internship I have barely had time to sleep, let alone goof off.

But some bad news: I blew up the KA.
I'm not sure what happened, I was driving normal one day and the knock light started to flash like crazy. When I got home I shut it off and restarted, it was cranking funny like it had low compression on one cylinder.
I finally did a compression test, and ended up with 160,110,190,190. So I pulled the head, and there seems to be piston damage.

Where to now?
I am currently sourcing parts for a V8 swap. Probably L33, but am looking for a decently priced LSx also. I am going to CAD/CNC the engine mounts at school. I am keeping the Megasquirt, and maybe painting the car in the downtime. It will be a while before it runs again.
As free time comes I will check back in here. I miss being active on here.

Stock block? I did not see you mention anything but I'd be happy with the length of time it lasted.

It was a stock block. I think I put around 20k on it with the turbo. It was a hard 20k.
I'm not too upset about it.
If there was E85 available here it would be getting g rebuilt with high compression pistons.

Look at that...20K with auto x events and still lasted. Proves to show that a good tune on a stock block is reliable. Good work Adam.

It could have lasted even longer. It had detonation on those cylinders, my best guess is the injectors weren't flowing what they were supposed to. I always had idle and AE problems, they may have been the reason.
