SR20det BMW build in Bangkok Thailand (no ka's in Thailand)

Post by franman »

Finally got a few pictures of my project out here in Bangkok.
Check out the Blog for more pictures and a little write up. http://brewed-motorsports.blogspot.com/ ... iland.html

It would have been great to do another ka-t, hell i almost had Brewed Motors ship a built long block over but with the lack of any spare parts and cost of shipping I elected to go SR...

I will try and keep it to mostly pictures and video here on the forum ;) Of course please feel free to ask any questions, always happy to help out if possible.

Super short build list:

2dr E30
s14 SR20det
AEM EMS V2
ID1000cc injectors
O44 bosch fuel pump
E85 ~25-30psi on the S15 turbo
BC sports coilovers 8k front 12k (6k working rate) rear
E36 rack *custom 6.5mm tie rod spacers for a bit more angle*
E46 front control arms to widen up the front track and give some clearance while at full lock
Sparco prodrive seat
Med. case rear diff (would love a nice LSD but more than likely will have to go welded for now)

Coming from the states where i have every tool imaginable at my finger tips this little project is tacking me back to my roots!

Pulled the engine harness yesterday in preparation for the AEM install and tuning. .Just got started labeling everything i will be keeping as well as a few things i'll be adding
I'll be sure to post up some pics of the finishes harness next week.

thank you for the kind words, haha ya those pictures on jack stands were at a huge semi open air shop about 300 yards from my apt out Nonthaburi. It used to be a body shop but closed after the terrible flooding last year so it was all but empty. haha worst part was there was a lift ~10 ft in front of the car that no longer worked.

New shop location in Bangkok will be a bit more crowded but much better all around :) i'll have pictures soon of course.

My little brother has a '99 540i with the 4.4V8 with some mods that's been surprisingly reliable and it's a fun little car....almost tempted to go BMW myself

Yes most the BMW chassis are very capable with some simple mods and decent power. Those Germans build a nice vehicle!

Couldn't find a shop ANYWHERE in my area that had what i needed... or even understood what i needed haha, SO I cannibalized the old gauge cluster i wont be using.
Didn't find a 100 ohm resister that i needed but i did score a 70 ohm and a 30 ohm bing bang boom soldered inline =100 ohm resister!

The engine harness all cleaned up. Still want to make a new coil harness to match but the oem one is untouched and works perfect for the time being.

Just got a set of these bad boys from VE, exactly what i needed for a little extra steering angle as well as getting my tie rods to play nice now that the longer aluminum E46 control arms are installed.

More metal...

Front strut towers
Tubes to front frame rail
Tubes to lower frame rail under drivers/passengers feet. *still need to add gussets to a few places on these*
Repair/re-enforce/replace frame rails
Added "sub frame connectors (these basically run wheel to wheel (front to back) along the pinch welds and have a few cross bars) *will be incorporating trans mount and drive shaft hoop in the cross bars*
Sheet metal patch/re-enforcement **as you can see in the pictures rear of the front wheel wells still need some sheet metallove**

I've seen this before... Did you post this on az240sx.org or hotmustard.org? This is a super sweet build!
