Stil Bil Story/Putting it back together
Well, here is my story.
2002 bought my 96 240 with absolutely no clue what I was buying. I spent the next few months realizing the potiential of the car. But at the time I was more into competiting in car audio. I built the car to compete in Advanced Consumer eventually taking 3 1st place finishes in the 3 shows I entered up to joining the USAF.
April 2003 I left for AF Basic and Tech school, returned for a month late 03 and shipped off to Italy for 3.5 years. During that time my Dad was driving the 240, no big deal.
April-May 2007 I PCS to Tucson AZ, a month before I left Italy I bought a 2001 Audi S4, 240 takes a back seat,
December 2007 I go home to get married and the day I get home, my dad calls and says "get your uncles truck and trailer and come get me". Get the 240 home to find a blown HG, begin work to fix car/finish planning a wedding/packing my now wife to bring her to Tucson. While working on the car we dropped a bolt down into the timming chain cover and said F it, (Never got the head off, just the VC)covered the motor and she was forgotten.
Each time we would go home I would see her sitting there in the carport and get sad. my wife picked up on this and one day while in Tucson after buying a house, having a baby girl and trading my Audi for a 2006 Tundra, she told me we needed to go back to Texas and bring the 240 home to Tucson.
May 2010 Get the car in my garage pull the head and pitted rust on all 4 pistons and cylinder walls. CRAP!!!
Life happens and now we are in early 2011 and I am catching flack from my friends at work about getting the 240 running again. SO...
I find a Motor in a Junk Yard in El Paso. First weekend in May we pull out the motor, the following Friday I take a day off, drive to El Paso with my motor for a core, 475 bucks later(motor cost and gas cost) i am back in Tucson with a motor from a 96 with the OD readong 80k miles. Saturday motor is in Sunday motor is turning over but wont start. Go to work on Monday, did some talking between my buddies at work, go home rotate my distributor 180deg, get in turn the key and she starts right up!! she is on the road again mid May 2011.
July 2011 clutch goes
September 2011 running again no issues.
May 2012 tried Gladmans setup. Didnt work very well.
That didnt work to well, poor idle, hole at about 2500
So with no rush to complete(or money) and a desire to have this car run correctly we ripped everything out for cleaning/paint. And I bought a Mega Squirt, Innovative LC1 and a GodSpeed Intake Manifold. Going to delete the MAFs and run a GM IAT.

Looking good. Wish we all were able to meet up. I drove through Tuscon then through the Tohono reservation. This was on Friday when there were flash floods.

550cc's will net about 300whp @ 85%. 550cc with corn is like running 370cc and only make around 250whp safely.

fwiw there are alot of 740cc tunes around. if i remember correctly, enthalpy was able to do up to 800cc injectors on the stock ecu

I figured that was going to be the case.supakat wrote:550cc's will net about 300whp @ 85%. 550cc with corn is like running 370cc and only make around 250whp safely.
What would you reccomend and is there anything bigger than 550 in a sidefeed style that will work on the stock rail?
Also, I dont really want to go with a front m ount, would the Supra side mount support 350 before heat soak in hot ass Tucson weather?
They have a 1000cc in sidefeeds. I would do that just in case you want to run corn as well.

As for the side mount, I am unsure but if it can handle that HP and you duct it, I think it may work.

you may want to go with the 740cc injectors. last i recall, there was a 800cc ish limit on the stock ecu for tuning fuel when i had my enthalpy box. plus there are alot of tunes for 740cc injectors on here.
if you are not buying a pretuned ecu, i suggest the 1000cc injectors as well, but i would recommend the top feed as a few people here have noted running out of fuel past the 800cc range on the stock fuel rail. theres people that sell the 11mm 1000cc's on here, or you can get the 14mm 1000cc(95lb) delphis like quite a few of us have. completely up to you and your wallet. either way, price out the fuel rail to support the larger injectors and the cost of the injectors to see if it is worth it to go that route.
imo, if you can afford to give yourself some wiggleroom, do it. buying 1 set of injectors instead of 2 saves quite a few dollars.
you can do the 550cc sti injectors for a little more than the 1000cc injectors. ie around 250$ new, both require new injector clips
what about running a square intercooler in front of the drivers side tire where it would get airflow? not sure how much room is there on the s14, or a mid mount where its right next to the radiator, but not in full view of the bumper

i wouldnt worry about heatsoaking...are you really going to be racing around in the day? my evo has a fmic and i only hit 23 psi but at night i can hit 26ish. you should get a set of altima fans. and if you stay e85, you can go top feed which is fairly cheap and might as well get 750cc+ with fuel pump/s that can handle it

Well, Im not worried about the tune due to using Mega Sguirt and from the sounds of things I would be much better off getting 1000cc top feed injectors. I did some looking and from what I can tell the MK4 Supra Side Mount will handle 300-400 HP which would fit my wants/needs.
So after I get this figured out my next upgrade will probably be big injectors(see above) a 255 and a supra side mount.
I am way far away from that though. still have to get her running and tuned with the current setup.

Alright,
Its a bizillion degrees outside so I figured I'd give an update.
Thursday afternoon my wife decides she wants to run over someone at a cross walk, car not person. So ive spent the better part of the last 3 days trying to put the Sante Fe back together. Was able to get her drivable for under 20 bucks, patched up the radiator and no A/C for a while until I can get a new condenser. So basically the 240 funds turn into the fix my crazy wifes car fund. after that fund is depleted and that car is fixxed, my wife gets to drive my truck, 06 Tundra, and im stuck with the Sante Fe... /sigh
On the bright side losing a potential 300 bucks to the wrong car puts me in the mindset to "work with what Ive got"
with the Godcrap IM there is a need to reroute the intake, I have managed to get my existing pieces from the old setup to work with the new setup. just need to order the IAT kit from DIYAuto Tune and get that put on. There is a potiential for more leaks due to the pieced upness but thats not something i cant handle.
This is to Supa or anyone with the MS -- all the items not being plugged back in -- what did you do with the plugs, just let them dangle or cut them off?
Also, for those of you with the Godspeed manifold, did your upper radiator hose fit the inlet or was it to big, proving Godspeed supplied yet another incorrect part?

The only plugs I do not use is the coil and ignition module. I just rolled it up and tuck it away. I use the MAF connection as the IAT so that took care of itself. As for the radiation, I think it was a bit smaller but by the looks of the hose in the pic, I would order some new ones soon.

I keep forgeting you have an S13, I have a slew of vac sensors no longer in use, no IACV, no mafs and the s14 has a IAT that i wont be using. Any S14 guys with Mega Squirt have any advice about where to wire in the new IAT from DIYAuto Tunesupakat wrote:The only plugs I do not use is the coil and ignition module. The 16 year old hose is stretched out, do you think a newer one would fit better?
