Ya I'm okay, but I'm sad for my car :(
I broke the driver side tension rod bracket and coilover. My radiator support got smashed in 4 inches as well, so the tension rod bracket won't bolt up. No worries, I'll figure it out.

Thanks!
They are Fortune Auto 500 by the way. They look to be cast coilovers, is that normal? Are the higher end coilovers supposed to be forged? I guess that's what you get for only spending $1200 on coilovers.
I sent that coilover back and I just heard from fortune auto, they will be shipping a fixed one back to me today! Can't wait to get it back on and get an alignment

I need some help with my steering please!
I am having a problem with steering. There is a big gap in the steering. What I mean is; when I turn the wheel, there is no instant response. I need to turn the wheel a good amount for it to respond. Also, when I press the brakes the steering wheel will spin in one direction until it eventually stops; although the car remains going in a straight line.

It feels like there is an area that doesnt respond to the turning of the wheel.

I have new tie rods, new ball joints, new arms with heim joints, new steering rack, and new steering rack bushings. Could it be that the steering column bushing is bad? Or maybe there is air in the PS system? Or can a simple alignment fix the entire issue

Thanks!

I believe alignment and the steering column joint might be damaged by the steering rack. Could be something that got damaged when you had the accident. Hey bro do you have a write up for the turbo timer install?

Is there any visible damage at any of the steering column joints?

Since the power steering is an "assist", air in the lines would just make the wheel harder to turn sometimes, it shouldnt effect the function of steering in any other way.

As long as everyhing suspension-wise is tight; hopefully its just the alignment.

If you want to check the alignment yourself (not exact but close measurements), you could use the string method.
I tried this a few months ago just to fiure out how off my alignment was and it worked pretty well.

I haven't checked yet. I've been so busy with work lately. I work 7pm to 7am and I sleep during the days, so you can imagine how that is for me.

This came in!

I'm also looking to buy a front H brace for the car to help it out a bit. I feel like the 240 has a weak chassis.

Honestly though, it would be cool to do on a chill day if you had the materials. I wonder if you could take some dimensions underneath and compare them to other cars dimensions that have what you're talking about being manufactured for them. Or at least something close enough to be modifiable. I don't know, ha.

2 rectangle or square steel scrap metal pieces, a steel round bar- measure, cut, weld, done : )

or... i think Nismo sells something like this called the "power brace"- its bolt in, but its the whole piece, not just the bar :/

Man, I really need to learn how to weld.
Nismos brace is around 400$ while that brace I posted is only 100$. I found one on zilvia brand new for 90$. If I can get it for 80$, I'll buy it.

There's a fab thread on zilvia with a bunch of good ideas.here's a homemade nismo power brace with stock pieces, but it requires welding.

Thanks. I was reading up on it for a couple hours last night. The more I read, the more I want to do it myself. It'll save me a good amount of money. I think I'll make my own, and spend the money on a strut bar or sways.

Hah, yeah you're right, it would be cheaper, and work the same or better if you do it yourself or have another experienced welder do it for you. I've thought about doing something similar for a rear strut tower setup- just welding two plates to the sides of the rear strutower for reinforcement and then welding a bar on top of these plates in between the two rear strut towers.

on another side note: thicker than oem SWAY bars are worth the cost in my opinion, strut tower bars... I dunno.

I made my own power brace on mine for about $15 in material or you can buy one off ebay used for about 150 they are super nice and the boxing in of the braces is very beneficial http://forums.kcdrift.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5550 this is what I used for a guide line.

So I put my repaired coilover back on and went for a test drive, the alignment is wayyyyy off. It pulls hard to the right. I was working on adjusting the tie rods last night to get it to straighten out, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be helping much. Once o get my suspension situated, I am going to dyno this car. But first things first!

I have these two welders:

http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/w ... andler140/

http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/Eq ... lectric%29

-the Hobart is a 110 outlet and is very convenient not having to use 220 every where I go (I have multiple shops un-connected) and it is a great welder and will do any job up to 1/8th inch steel easy. anything over 1/4 inch would be pushing it

-the Lincoln is also an exceptional one b/c its 220 and it can make a hotter weld and getting proper penetration is a lot easier for thicker metals.

Miller would be your best bet. but also there welders are very expensive but I have only used a Miller one time and it was AMAZING but it was a shop welder and it was like 3 grand....but what ever you decide to get make sure it will do gas b/c flux is a lot cheaper than using gas and does the job but if you every need something done with gas its nice to have the option to just switch the wire and turn the gas on and go.

I'll definitely remember this. I'm going go shopping once I get the money. It'll probably be in about a couple months.

I bought a j30 vlsd, both axles, and both hubs today. I'm pretty excited about this. I'll be putting it together once I get the time. I'll post pics tomorrow.
