d.p's 95 KA-T Build

First lets start with a little background. I still have all my other 240s, the TT SBC S13 and The Vert, but when my friend (s14tan) said he was getting rid of his car I had to jump on it! His plans for the car was to drop the SR and build a badass KA-T. Well he got started on this, he pulled the SR and dropped in the KA. Well I guess some stuff came up and then he got his priorities straightened out a bit and decided to get out of the 240 game for a bit.

When I got the car I found a few things that needed to be fixed before I even took it home. Car needed a battery, some chewed up wiring fixed, and some grounds that needed to be re connected. I added some fuel and found out that the tank has a massive crack in it and the lower timing guide broke. This wasn't going to stop me from getting the car home though.

Well I had some parts originally for the vert, but they got donated to the S14. First off the wheels were swapped over and I lowered the car more and rolled and pulled the fenders. I then took a long hard look over the vert and realized that the KA-T setup needed to go onto the S14. So I took it apart and remembered that I had a pretty beffy ram style manifold from an old S14 with a KA-T.

I know I may not seem to care about the looks of my car, but I wanted this on e to be a little better than all the other 240's that I've owned. I added some ricer stuff o make the car a little more me lol. I added kouki skirts, roof wing, and took off the se spoiler.

Okay back to the motor. I had been lurking on here for a while and decided to start asking questions about things I needed to complete the setup before I started. I slowly bought some more stuff for the car that I felt was necessary for the setup (MAF, Injectors, JWT, etc..)

Here is now.

Mod List. 09/19/16

- 3076R/Cast Mani
- Turboholic's 264/264
- Greddy VSPL FMIC
- Greddy Type RS BOV
- TiAL F38
- Megan Racing Downpipe
- Topspeed Pro1Test Pipe
- BlitZ Nurspec
- Topspeed Pro1 Radiator
- Nismo 740's
- HKS Drag Coilovers
- Z32 BMC
- Z32 Front Calipers
- Agency Power Brake lines
- Some Random Whitebunny Setup
- Innovate MTX-L Wideband
- GM IAT
- DIYAutoTune MS2PNP
- Topspeed Pro1 Front Tension Rods
- Topspeed Pro1 Rear Tension Rods
- Topspeed Pro1 Rear Upper Control Arms
- ISR Solid Subframe Bushings
- Q45 VLSD
- Q45/TT Axles

Topspeed Pro1 was a sponsor for my S13 and decided to hook me up with some parts to test out on this car.

So far I have pulled the stock intake, stock manifold, and swapped out the battery to a smaller power cell. Installed the new turbo manifold, turbo (clocked to fit) relocated power steering reservoir. Tried to install the coldpipe only to realize that I need a S13 SR cold pipe instead of the S14 SR pipe that I have. No biggy though, I'll take it from the vert lol. After I figure out some of the oil feed/drain stuff, I'll get started on that next. Weather pending I'm going to wire in the z32 MAF and the injectors.

Here's a pic:

I'll add more pictures as I continue to make progress.

Thanks for reading :)

Updated the parts list a tad... pics on page 6 :p

Previous owner(of the manifold) made high 400's with this manifold/wastegate combo.

I made decent power with the eBay mani as well.

I don't think it's eBay, I have an eBay manifold, that thing is complete poop compared to this mani.

On another note, I tried starting the car earlier. Didn't get spark with the JWT ECU , but I got spark with my stock ecu. What do y'all think it could be?

Trust me it is. I ran mine for over 2 years. I had to weld it twice. I bought mine used for $40 but it was a good breathing manifold.

Looks like a ebay manifold that was just rewelded. Just like the one I have.

Oh well I have a reinforced eBay mani then. Anyone have any input about the ecu issue?

I reread your post and don't see where you asked about the ecu. As for the mani, it is a decent mani. It spooled my 60-1 and 60 trim good.

Thanks, I was looking in the first post. As for spark, make sure the eeproms are sitting correctly. Also, I believe if the OBD light is on all the time, there is an issue with the ecu. Email JWT for assistance as well.

EEPROM as in the daughter board?
Obd light is not on.
And do you know if there is a better email for JWT other than contact@jimwolftechnology.com?

Got in contact with Ben at JWT and we started trouble shooting my ECU.... Either way I'm sending it back for a re-tune. For now we are trying to get the car started.

Thanks guys!

So I got most of the hot piping tied up last night, I forgot all the random hassle there is going top mount. I had to borrow my buddy's A/C Refrigerant extractor so I could move the A/C lines. For now I can live without A/C, but I'll figure a way to run it in the future. As for the ECU we trouble shot it and figured out that its possibly fried. My stock ecu turned over the car and the light on the ecu came on when the car was ready to crank. Upon further inspection the JWT ECU didn't have a LED in it, and my dash doesn't have a check engine light, so I couldn't check that way. We checked for spark and injector pulse, but it had neither. So I will be sending off the ECU today or tomorrow and will be finishing up the cold side and oil lines tonight.

poor car :/ I feel like all the broke dick teenage 240 owners around here now with no bumper :/

So I put my ECU up for sale on a local 240 board and explained whats wrong with it... hopefully I get at least half of the money back on it, then I'm going microsquirt DIY PNP.
Until then Ill keep playing around with some things. Depending if my buddy is still at his shop when I get off work I'll get him to weld my Greddy RS flange on to my cold side pipe and Install the Greddy RS BOV, Tial WG, and TurboXs Manual Boost Controller. Yesterday I was bored and found about 50ft of heat wrap so I decided to wrap the turbo elbow elbow and tonight I'll probably wrap the manifold as well and install my Z32 BMC so I can finish up the heat shield. Got plenty of work a head of me and should keep me busy until I have the money for the DIYPNP.

ALSO: If anyone can help me, I have no clue where to run the vacuum lines for the BOV, WG, and Boost Controller.

Tee off your brake booster hose and use that line for vac sources.

Get it if you can!

I had a full MS2 Extra ECU that came off my turbo Z car, otherwise I would have got a PnP.

Is this how to hook up wastegate and boost controller?

Don't laugh at the pic, it was like 2am in the morning.

Hook compressor straight to bottom WG port. WG does not need vacuum to work. The top is not needed until you put a boost controller on. As for the BOV, it needs to be connected to a vacuum source. Nice drawing btw.

How does your downpipe line up with that manifold?

Thanks supakat!

Rtm- I have a EMUSA 5bolt turbo elbow that we massaged to line up with my Megan Racing Downpipe.
Wasnt too far off but didn't wiggle through till I adjusted it with my hammer lol.
