S14wayz 98 Kouki Build...A Sad End :(

Postby S14wayz » Wed Apr 24, 2013 11:26 am

Hey fellas, been lurking these forums for quite some time now and decided that I want to track my S14 build. Plan to push onwards of 500whp on pump gas. I'll probably be going with a PTE 6262, AEM Methanol/Water Injection, MSPNP2, Built Block, Z32 Transmission + Excessive VG Mount & Driveshaft, Custom Intake + Q45 Throttle Body, 1000cc Injectors and much more!

Stay tuned!

Sold that and bought the S14. Sorry in advance for the image quality on some of these.

So the car sat all winter and pulled her out recently from storage and got the rear up on stands. Washed it down pretty good and got the rear wheels off to work on the brakes.

Clean Kouki! Looking forward to seeing your build.

My heart still belongs to S13 hatches though <3

Front plate!! Kill it with fire!!!

Great looking S chassis you have there. I had never seen a white interior in a 240SX until today

+1 on the white leather interior, haven't seen that before in a 240sx. Nice S13 you had there.

I love the leather, apparently I'm the only one here who has had the opportunity to see it before. Afaik it was an option only on the LE models. I love the s13 too, good luck on the build!

Yeah, that interior was only available on the LE trim. Mine has it as well. It's a very light beige color. It has a few tears though :-(

So for now going to keep rear brakes stock and then go z32 up front once i pick them up this week.

Image

Image

Image

Spent a ton of time degreasing and wire wheeling the calipers to get them ready for paint

Image

I built an electrolysis tank and put the rotors and caliper parts in there for a couple days and let me tell you the majority of the rust comes off like BUTTER! I love it, I then dipped some pieces in zinc chromate bath to get the rest of it off. The parts literally came out like new. Ill post some pics of the setup later if some of you are not familiar with it cause I highly recommend it.

Image

Painted the rotors and then got them turned. Painted the calipers as well.

Image

Rotors after electrolysis and paint.

Thats it for now going to get the rear brakes back on this week and bled then prepare for the z32 swap up front.

So small update, bought a blown s13 KA for 100 bucks about a week ago..got it home with a truck bed full of oil and tore it down. Found that cyl #3 piston didnt look too happy :P and all the oil ports and coolant ports were clogged up.

Finished the tear down yesterday. Degreased and powerwashed the block and gave it a bath in wd-40 and got it on the stand.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

piston #3 melted

Image

Got the block up on the stand and did a bit more cleaning and took a grinder to some of the casting imperfections.

Image

Image

So as you can see cyl #3 got a fair amount of damage to the wall..theres no deep grooves or anything but its basically melted piston smeared up the cylinder.

I planned to get it machined 0.020 over but not sure if this block is toast or will all that get machined out pretty easily?? Apart from that cyl everything else looks pretty good.

You should be fine, i had rust spots in a cylinder that boring took right out. By the way the piston melted im sure you're ok.

Love the car and interior, you dont see clean interior like that everyday.

sweet yeah I think it should get machined out just fine. Thing is some of the coolant and oil ports right when they hit the deck of the block they are corroded and are rounded off instead of creating like a 90 degree with the block if you get what I mean. Is that going to cause some problems?? I still have a mint KA in my s14 I can build but was planning to build this block this summer and have it good to go once i pull my other KA. Ill go take some pics now and post them and see what you guys think :) thanks!

Nothing wrong with that. Theres still a good flat surface between all of them to seal.

Most importantly look at the coolant ports on the head. I had a rear coolant port on an S13 head that corroded and i had to have welded. The head is softer aluminum so it doesnt do as well against corrosion. This is what happens when the previous owner doesnt ever change the coolant.

Love the car and work so far. Insanely clean car

Appreciate it! :) Yeah judging by the condition of the engine looks like the previous owner didn't like to change any fluid lol. Called a really good machine shop in my area and going to drop the block off for him to take a look at it this week. He quoted me about 800 bucks to bore & hone, deck, hot tank, magna flux, turn the crank, balance the assembly. He told me to hold off ordering any internals till he mic out the crank.

So blocks been at the machine shop for a while now they rough bored it out and it cleaned up really nice and was stock bore when they measured it. He said that most of it was just melted piston smeared up the cylinder wall. Ordered Wiseco Piston's 9:0:1 89.5's, Eagle Rods, Arp mains and headstuds, OEM Nissan water pump and OEM Nissan Oil pump and front cover. Gonna wait for these parts to come in then off to the machine shop with all the goodies.

Plan is
-Bore to fit pistons
-Deck block and Timing cover
-Mic out the crank and determine bearing sizes and order those
-Balance the whole rotating assemble after

Called the dealership for a gasket set w/o headgasket and valve seals and they tell me its $450.00 special order from japan lol F DAT.
Anyone use the felpro gasket set? I think ima get that and just use everything else but h/g and valve seals.

Got one of these badboys last night, cleaned up the bench with some new board and made a little cabinet out of a wine case. Z32 non TT 5 spd transmission. Ill be using an Xcessive VG adapted kit and shifter relocation kit.

Image

Took a grinder to the oil pan and got it all cleaned up. Getting prepared to weld the bung and then powder coat it black.

So heres the first one we made, just used re-bar and a small bucket and used an old battery charger to supply current to it (12V). All you need to do is add sodium bicarbonate to the water in the bucket which is the fancy name for washing soda. Honestly im amazed at how well it works you guys should really try it if you havent. Its basically free and in a matter of a couple days you can have an old rusty part looking practically new. Plus theres nothing to worry about, could leave it in there for weeks and it wouldn't cause any pitting etc just DONT put aluminium or chrome pieces in it. (From what I heard it will pit it and produce poisonous gases and considering aluminum doesn't rust there should be no reason to put it in there anyways)

Image

As you can see all the rust basically "melting" off :)

Image

The second one we made was out of a long rubber made following the same principle, I use that for big pieces that wont fit in the small tank. I know its pretty basic but any questions feel free to pm :)
