Flex pipe location

Post by casman86 »

I'm incorporating a flex pipe on my downpipe on a top-mount setup and wondering if it's okay to put it far upstream, on the vertical portion. Or will this be too hot and destroy the flex section too quickly? I've never had a flex pipe so I don't know how durable they are.

I should mention that it's the normal type that has just a braided inner lining, not the expensive kind with the corrugated inner tubing.

Shouldn't matter for longevity/wear reasons. I have my flex section in my midpipe between the downpipe and the rest of my exhaust. Flex sections are not as weak as you'd think - it's still all steel.

I just noticed the PBM flex cobra downpipe uses a flex in the spot I'm planning to put mine, and that's on a bottom mount where it's even closer to the turbo. So I'll go ahead and do it.

I would do it just like that one pictured above. If you place the flex section anywhere after that you run into issues.
- if you bottom out you can rip open the flex section, which is very easy to cut yourself on when under there and could casue leaks.
-you do not want the chance of bottoming out before the flex section in the event that you place it further back. It would be a shame to have to pay for a flex, and another exhaust mani.
It's always broken.

as long as your not placing the flex section right up on the turbo your should be fine
