Rev limit on a OJ Hyd Cam Stg 2 + Stock head?

Post by Lopin18 »

Well ive been drifting my car for 2 years, the stock head has never failed me so far, sometimes lifters tick, or collapse to a subaru sound :P but ive had a LONG time without it happening again.

So! i got a O&J Performance Stage 2 Hydraulics Cam, and ive had problems with 3rd gear while drifting, hitting the limiter at 5800 gives me very lil millage so ive thought that rising it to 6500,6800 would give me more kph in 3rd gear, also the cam breathes a lot better so i have to raise it to enjoy the cam.

SO anyone running 6800 revs on a SOHC? Anyone has that same cam? any tips? things to watch out for?

i know a guy locally that said if you want to rev the singel cam just make sure you shim your valve springs to help with not floating valves

don't know if i would go that route but i think that is one of the biggest concerns besides heatsoak and detonation after a few hard runs

Keep it around 6500 to 6800 RPM and you should be ok.If you upgrade the valve springs than you could take up to 7200 RPM it all depends what your doing with the car.

Drifting, so its gonna be harsh, im thinking of getting the Pioneer Springs, which are stiffer, and Eagle rods, since i have Stock rods right now, dont wanna break the engine since it has been very expensive to get it where it is today... :? Gonna make a last sacrifice and get at least the springs, dont know if i really need the Rods for +-300 hp that im thinking of.
