KA24E-T with stock SR20 piping, airbox, SMIC. Been done b4?

Post by Two-Tone »

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site but not to the car. I'm also registered on Zilvia and NicoClub but for my question I thought I would ask here!

I currently have a 1989 240sx XE with a KA24E of course. A very healthy one at that.
I'm starting to put a needed parts list together for a mild KA24E-T setup but the IC setup I've been stuck on. I would like to try and know if anyone before has tried using SR20 factory piping, airbox, and run a SMIC or turn-flow type. I know many things are possible with time/money but I would like to know what issues I should be ready for if any and if also possible see pictures/video.

Reasons for doing this:

1. California
2. California
3. California
4. cool factor
5. California

Thanks!

This is the best "oem looking ka24det" in my opinion. Looks like you can do whatever you want, only prob is gonna be finding the oem sr airbox for a decent price. Also check out this thread,

That's a nice set up too but I have yet to see a KA24E/single cam in the similar fashion. :/

You will wind up having to fab the exhaust mani to put the turbo in the right spot.

I have a couple S13 OEM SMICs I'd be willing to sell if you're looking for one.
Let me know and I'll get some pictures posted.

Thank you LeaS13Zenki! I'm getting in contact with the owner now.

I won't have to with the Gladman Performance T2 bottom mount manifold. I don't plan on a ton of power either. I just want some peppy, some fun boost, and reliability so I think a T25 setup should do just fine for that.

Currently not commiting to a SMIC just yet. Looking at other options like an ARC turn-flow, GKtech's no-hole intercooler, or the RB20 short-route/"same-side" intercooler. Unless you have a really good deal I can't pass up, haha.

I really think I want to go with the turn-flow or one of the "same-side" intercoolers because for the SMIC I would have to cut up my bumper to make am opening for optimal exposure to the air instead of it hiding it completely behind my bumper.

Oh right is that the only manifold that does that for SOHC?

I don't believe so, I only have known of and spoken to one person who's even attempted the setup I'm aiming for and they used the Gladman manifold. The setup in the picture posted above is using one.

I want to do the same thing eventually just for the simple function of it, low budget and to be different etc. But the big question, is Gladman still in business or anything, i tried to email him and no response.

No luck with GladFab anymore, they wont get back to me at all through any form of social media or email.

Anyways just wanted to say I'm only a couple weeks away from finishing this and that I'll end up using a turbo S12 manifold.

Well, I would love to post pictures to describe what's going on but I just finished submitting a dispute with PayPal being that I never received the manifold. :(

So now my search continues for a bottom mount KA24E-T manifold.
