whos running light weight wheels

Post by beercandrifter »

in a dilemma here. I have the money to buy light weight wheels (kosei or rpf01's), but all and all I think they are hideous looking.

Im a function over form guy and I just want to find out from people running lighter weight rims how the car feels, no one local runs anything but xxr rims. I would run wedsports if I could find a set for a decent price, but haven't run across any yet.

car is for road racing / some drag
going to be running 17x9/9.5 or 18x9/9.5 sized rims

was considering mb weapons/battles as a cheaper alternative and using the extra money on better brake pads.

looking at 16/17 lbs for the enkei/kosei for the 17x9
and ~22 lbs for the mb's

I can tell you that I had Sportmaxx(xxr) 962s a while back and they were 26&27 lbs for the 17x7 and 17x9's. My wheels now are closer to 22-23 lbs, noticeable difference.

thanks for posting the link, ran across that place along time ago, even have their spreadsheet on my desktop. they are missing some newer wheels though

guess its all or nothing, will go for the lightweight wheels and see what kind of improvement I get from the car

I run a set of RPF1's, I'm also more form over function but I dont think they look bad.

i cant stand the people that put stuff on there cars that dont do anything. i dont care what a car looks like asd long as it makes the car faster. like the Buick fender stickers, 22s on a IROC Camaro, fake hood scoop on a Ford Fucas

Just ranting? =)

the point of running lighter weight wheels is to make it go faster? its reduced rotational mass, the question is replace the wheels with something a similar weight as stock wheels but allow wider rubber or run lighter wheels for a higher premium to run wider rubber

either way it will allow the car to go faster =)

RPF1s are pretty much the best bang for the buck wheel.

You can also look at FN01RCs or, if you can fit them, 6ULRs.

i never even knew about the 6ULR's, I really like the way those look. 52 offset though, those would be some huge spacers to run on a s13

I was running 95' cobra wheels on my car before. The 17X10.5s were 55lbs each with tires in the back.

I swapped them for the 03' machined cobra wheels with 255's in the rear and they dropped to 42lbs with tires, made a huge difference.

Lighter is wayyy better. If you can settle for 16's, the sportmax 002's are super light.

16lbs each:

These are the 15's, the 16's look better :)
