any vh45de users here?

Post by beercandrifter »

was wondering if anyone has a build here with a vh45de.

the junkyard a street over from me has one listed in good condition for 250$, was going to call them to see what all came included with it.

from what i can see online, they are pretty beastly little motors, just not much aftermarket just like the ka was. about 300hp/tq out of the stock motor. would make for a nice n/a motor without having to do a bunch of mods

plus they come with a 6900rpm redline which i found interesting.
edit: guess the jy motor is missing accessories, have to see if the pullandpay here has a q45 in stock. may have an ls motor for sale here in the short term.

edit2: oh heck yes, the pull and pay has 3 q45s in the yard. looks like i will have a few more motors sitting in my garage. lol thank goodness for having a truck now

LOL. You are doing what plan is next. VH or VQ. Either one will do.

Make up your mind bro lol just playing. I think you should finish the ls/z32 tranny stuff you had going. You are making some nice custom parts that lot of people could use in the future. Or you should do all the swaps and make custom parts for all and then start building these parts.

If the z32 works with the ls motor and holds the power, that would make the swap so much cheaper. Not having to find the tranny for that swap would be amazing.

My machinist has a VH45 in his s14.

Hes running a z32 adapter from Elweso on Nico. I can put you in touch with him if you have any questions, hes not on this forum, but is super knowledgeable and down to earth. besides the swap kit, he built everything himself, including the wiring harness.

He also kept all of the emissions equip formt he VH too.

He keeps trying to get me to abandon my KA and go VH or VK.

me and my buddy are bui;ding one, almost ready to test fire. i also second elwesso dude is really really helpful.
my setup is a xcessive mount kit with elwesso adapter kit and mazworx headers and xtd/f1 racing stg3/fw combo

we have learned alot but its thus far almost a 2 year old project but we are taking it slow to get literally the best deals one can get short of the mount kit which was bought new.

questioning if i should try and get megasquirt to work on it or not, havent seen any success stories with this engine yet

seems the 96 engine is the oddball vh45, no vvt like the others.

I havent looked into it, but my buddy seems convinced that until AEM Infinity comes out there are no plug and play options besides piggybacks like FIC.

FIC 8 should work just fine, but it has something to do with the way the spark is doled out - the way I understand it, its like 2 4 cylinders offset at 180 degrees rather than a single 8 cyl.

I'm just waiting for the aftermarket support for the vh to take off like it has with most engines swapped into 240's.

well its coming along slowly , elwesso has a rom tune for vh's that nets an additional 30-40hp cams would be nicer if they werent 1500-1700. id without hesitation drop 5-600 on cams. if you check out GSracer on v8nissans he is pioneering alot of things he modified a mustang vortech to fit on a vh, also has made intake manifold adapters to run a better plenum ie porsche cayenne (which looks an aweful lot like an lsx mani)

ideally im just going for 300-350 reliable hp to beat on

Yeah I've seen his work which is awesome but I'm more or less waiting for someone to produce a single turbo manifold for purchase. And even though I've seen twins done on them in an s chassis like the japspeed guys did, its nearly impossible to do without cutting the fender wheels.

Lol I bought a donor q45 with a broken transmission for 600, now justntrying to figure out where to swap in lol.
More people need to do these swaps in order to gain aftermarket support.

I had a 93 Q45. Had the cellphone in it and everything. I did plugs, timing chains, oil pump chain, every tensioner and guide, etc. I know some about the motor...and one is a tuned up takin care of VH.....why is the first thing cams on everybody's list? Two there is a less than a 500 dollar tune to squeeze 30 wheel and raise the limiter to 7500 where it should be. Sad thing is you could ITB it for cheaper than cams by the time you have someone shim the buckets. Tune it up, tune it, and x pipe the guy.
