Long Time Coming **KA-T Build Thread**

Post by Bill3rdshift »

My name is Bill. Some of you might know me from the Tampa area. The car has alot of history, some of you might know about that as well. The car has been with me for a while but the motor was torn down more than a year ago.

I started with just a rebuild to get it running again, but I decided it would be a good idea to go all out and redo the nasty wiring and other things that were over looked by the previous owner. Enjoy

Feel free to ask questions....

The line coming from the valve cover is going to the intake pluming it is not running into the radiator like it appears.

I was running a 60-1 before the motor blew. I bought a SC61 but then decided to go with a GT35R .82 a/r T4 exhaust side.

Again the setup before was a mess. The haltech harness was all over the place, other hoses were all over, I could go on for hours. The previous owner cut alot of corners and didnt know what the hell he was doing. He even jacked up the car in the wrong spot and ***** it up a little, but you can't see that unless you are under the car. But the owner that originally had the car did a great job. The paint is a silver with metallic flakes that you can only see if you are very close or in the sunlight. The car is amazingly clean in all other parts. It only has 65k miles on the chassis too :-)

I just got my BC V3 cams in today. I will post pics as the build progresses, stay tuned for some quality fab work, wiring tucking, etc.

Under Construction
spun a rod bearing

The wing is not something I am really into either but I acquired it. I will be getting a stock SE wing and stock front bumper. I love the way the s14 looks in stock form with all the accessories hidden. I just have to get the bumper and the wing paint matched.

The valvetrain will be taken care of.

This is true. Should be able to best those numbers.

Again Duy did a wonderful job with the car. The guy who had it after him really messed it up. Probably why I got it for a good deal :-)

Whew ok good. I'm glad you're putting the stock front bumper on and getting rid of that wing. Everything else looks good. Are you going to do anything with the suspension/wheel set-up?

Too much to list.

Again I love the stock body and will put those pieces on, but come on does it really look that bad???

I have Rx7 FD3 wheels with old school MT ET streets... I am gonna throw 285/35r18 nitto 555r's on the wheels on the car now, for the street ( I know they will not hook to good but they will be better than kumho tires ). Then the plan is to get bronze volk TE37's 17's all around with DR's and also to get 2 Volk TE37's 15x10 ( if they make it, they should ) and put new school MT ET streets for racing street/track. I think the MT ET streets should be enough grip to put the power to the ground and put down some 1.5-1.6 60'

Image

Image

BTW I am all about hookin and putting the power down
Spud5251 wrote:you know 650WHP you will have completely maxed out that turbo.
That is the goal. I am trying to max out everything else.

Here is a old video of the car with the RX7 wheels and the MT ET streets.

http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t113 ... duy240.flv

It cuts a 1.77 60' and 7.2 @ 100mph 1/8 mi. and 11.1 @ 129mph 1/4 mi.

The new setup will have much more power. But I think that the ET streets will do at the track until I get the new setup. I might go with drag wheels and skinnies up front like Ivan from Turbo240.

I think it hooks nicely but you can see it spins as soon as the clutch gets let out. I think a 1.5 60' is in it for sure, and that will take a good amount off of the 1/4 mi. time

Yes this is the car from Texas... The car that Duy started. Let me say that Duy did an excellent job starting the project and breaking records. The guy who I bought it from was not Duy and unfortunately the quality of the work went downhill.

That's an understatement Bill. I know that guy and the shop that worked on it. They totally ***** that car up! Congrats on the car though. Are you still gonna run the Haltech? I'll have to come down to FL and when I do we'll need to run for sure. I'm working on a new setup myself.

Good luck on the project and it looks good! :D

Bill, my name is Dan. i was on TR and 3rd shift. met you once but you probably don't remember me.

glad to see the car making progress. i still have the video from when you raced scott over the bridge, hehehe.

hope to see that thing running soon. the nissan scene in tampa has quietly died down, at least to me it has. a new era of owners makes me feel old and an outsider.

Ispy -

I lost that video... I would love for you to send me that video. Could you send it to nightracer@tbi.net please or host it somewhere ASAP. I would REALLY appreciate that.

I don't remember you off the top of my head but I am sure if I saw you I would. About the Nissan scene going downhill I don't doubt it, hopefully when the car is done I can have some influence on people coming out of the wood work. PM me or Email Thanks

Duncan -

I am planning on keeping the Haltech E6K for now. Eventually I would like to go with a AEM or Haltech E11, but for now E6k will rock the tune. I would love to get together with you and do a few runs etc.

Also I am not surprised about the work on the car. I could noticed it as soon as I saw the car, but honestly I fell in LOVE with this S14. I am glad I blew the motor because it made me rebuild and now I am doing it the way I want, even though it cost a lot and takes time, it is worth it :-)
