I'm sure this has been asked before..but I can't for the life of me fnd it on a search. I want to rebuild a motor. But what wouldl be the better bet for drifting and power a Single slammer or a de? Thanks for all your help!

^ Not really true, one of the fastest KA's in the world was SOHC.
A boosted motor is like a turbine engine, the combustion chamber facilitates the burn, but the turbo is going to define the force behind the flow through the engine. You can build a SOHC to make 700-800whp on gasoline just like a DE so I dont really see many advantages/disadvantages at the level of power 99% of us operate at.
A DE might make more power at a given boost with a given turbo, but you add a lb or 2 of boost to increase the head flow and you're good. At what point would you bolt on a massive turbo where you'd hit a terminal velocity through the head and having 40+lbs of boost wouldnt increase power?
The limitations are in the block, both blocks built the same will have combustion chamber failure at the same spot, so IMO, boosted they're pretty well the same. Although the SOHC is lower compression can be more resistant to detonation. Its also more simple, lighter and easier to work on.

the DE head flows better obiously. basicly if you ran the same or very similar set up on both the DE should be faster. but like jordan said that doesnt mean you cant turn up the boost a little.
do more reaserch on the parts you want to use and see which way would be cheaper or has better parts. theres not much for the sohc.

because there is sheet-ton of sohc shells. and if you want to just get one running without going through the hassel of finding everything for a DE conversion, it's just plain easier to put a sohc back in. don't have to deal with finding a harness, ecu, mafs, power steering resevoir/lines, throttle cable, etc.tom550 wrote:Exactly why would anyone want to spend over $100 on a sohcTinyT wrote:lol. shows what i know. iv only had 1 sohc from a parts car and i threw it away
as for power, i picked up a sohc from a local guy a few years ago who did an rb swap. i found an extremely rare sohc 5 speed ABS car. the head was removed. so i put that engine in that car. everything on it was bone stock and it was quiker than probably 90% of the na DE's out there. when i got that engine home and cleaned it, i found a factory nissan rebuild sticker on it. it was probably rebuild under warranty. regardless it was strong.

go with dohc, there is a lot more suppory, and they are inherently a much better design

i should have figured, my b12 sentra 1.6 is a 12 valve, now thats a real powerhouse
