What do you guys pay for welding gas?

Post by TinyT »

Its always interesting to see the different rates around.

I go through airgas, but an independent supplier for them. Found two 330 tanks on craigslist this week. Paid 70 to have them re certified and saved myself the 500 dollar deposit and paying to lease them. I had to get the 330's, I burned through the 150s so fast. Now I have an extra tank to purge with, and a spare.

$73 for my 330 tank of argon
$76 for 330 tank of 75/25
$29 for 150 tank of argon
$33 for my 150 tank of 75/25

I used to pay 75 a piece for the 150's at a local hardware store, didnt even realize how obscene it was for awhile.

I think I have 120's, or 125's, I don't remember.

But ballpark is 35-45 bucks depending on 100 AR, 75/25, or whatever else I'm tinkering with.

What's nice, is the 80's just went up in price due to them trying to get rid of them. So the lease price on my 80's gets me a 'free' upgrade to 120/125's. I thought that was kinda neat.
But I can't get anything bigger than that around here without a business or a lease gimmick or whatever.

This is almost exactly what we pay for gas. Gas is a commodity like any other, the prices should be fairly universal across the board. Unless you're shopping retail and paying some mom and pop shop to fill your small tank off their 330 tanks.

Im sure we pay less for oxygen though, our tank is 20' tall and 10" across.

I wish it was that cheap here. I pay about $50 for a 50 of 100% argon. Granted, I go go to a local place not a big welding shop and they're open on weekends.

I actually haven't bought my own gas yet since I use the campus's facilities so I can't contribute much to this.

Very nice. I have to talk to my normal sales guy the next time I go back, I know I can get a better price on the 330 than $75
