has less parts to replace =) (ie head studs, head gaskets)sicks13 wrote:How does a Inline 6 have less moving parts than a V-6??tom550 wrote:why dont you get a i6? the torque would be there. might be lighter. and balenced better. less moving parts.
Anyway, I like the looks of this project..
the rb engines seem to be in short supply however, the vq on the other hand are becoming almost as available as the ka's, just wish the price were that of a 20 year old engine!
have you had a chance to compare the physical sizes of both engines? would be interested to see that. No reason you couldnt run a collector on the exhaust to a turbo rather than run dual turbos, seen my share of v8's who take that route

I just got off the phone with and engine supply company and the engine is 1300 and the trani is more. It says on the website the engine info then AT or MT, but that for what ECU comes with the engine. I prob wouldn't turbo it until I get use to the 230 whp (just think of a Hayabusa on four wheels and twice the weight).

I was talking to the guys Locostusa and the weight of the car, it is most likly going to be around 1200-1300 lbs.The engine is going to be around $1350 w/a 6 month warranty and trani is going to be around 500-800 dollars. But what I was told was, "buy facory parts until you have it running, then upgrade those parts" If you pay for only expensive parts then your project will never be done.

ONE MILLION DOLLARS *Dr. Evil pinky thing*
Looking good dude, my roommate has something very similar in mind once we all get out of college, he's a DSM guy so he's wanting to put a 4g63 in it and make it AWD - he's banged his head on the wall over it for months trying to figure out the best way to situate the transmission/which one to use.
I may have missed it, but what are you doing for drivetrain?

I have thought about a 4G63 but he's talking about adding another 300-400 lbs + another 100 lbs more for the Engine/Trans for the cast iron block and heavy trans. But Im going with a VQ35DE V6 and the Maxima Trans. The engine by it self is 330 lbs and makes the torq I need.
Just scan trough the post, that why its there.

I know Im thinking ahead but I keep thinking of the SEXY exhaust tone of the VQ35DE engine and was woundering what if any body knows of a good sexy muffler. I thought of running a flowmaster, to give it a deep rumble but when I looked it up on youtube it didn't sound right at all so here is my second thought and its light. Does anybody else have any thoughts?

I was looking at current gas prices and what they are est to go over $5.00/a gallon. So Im happy that Im doing this project, but I wish electric batteries would charge up faster. Then I would go with 2 200hp electric motors, because each motor puts out 390 ft/lbs or torq from 0-8000rpm. That would add alot of wieght, 10-20 70lbs batteries plus 2 140lbs motors. Im not saying Im going to do it, because of the cost and the time it takes to charge it up.
Currently Im waiting on some more money to buy the trans and the tubes for the frame. Then I will buy it all at once and I will show you guy the progress pics of what Im working with. I will be runing the headers clockwise or counter clockwise and with dual mufflers, each muffler will have one (3 cylinders) header each.

I admire your dedication. I spent a good deal of time over the last 3 years over on locostusa.com, drooling over the lotus replicas, and planning on my own.
Was planning a KA-T powered lotus replica with IRS from an s13, and a miata front end. By January of this year my basement had 3 extra KAs, 2 VLSDs, a complete rear s13 subframe, and a manual miata steering rack all taking up space in the corner.
I got as far as ordering all the steel for the frame and cutting nearly all of the chassis peices. I even started the welding process. That alone took me 3 years...the frame is still on the build table in my basement
What finally broke my will to finish was a single day where I read a post on the locost forums where a dude was building his own pedal box assy. It was great fabrication, and I got excited at first. Until I realized that his build thread was 5+ years long...I realized that day that I would never finish my build...it would consume me, and I would spend YEARS building this thing.
So back in April I cut my loses and bought another 240 to play with...
I hope you carry through and finish. Subscribed.
P.S. bell crank suspensions are DOPE!!!!!
