500hpka240sx's build
hey everyone been on the site for some time and seeing everyones work and ideas and I have decided to start my build with a goal of a down right sick street car at 400whp/tq....I just sold my 89 to pay off my 91 and start putting money into it. I just got my block back from kansas had it hot tanked, bored .04 over, and honed. Just a few weeks ago i got a few things like forged wiseco piston/eagle rod set, PEP valves, and a fuel pressure regulator and 255 pump, and then out of money lol. but its a 1300 dollars well spent. this is my first ka build and any suggestions/ideas are appreciated any questions about my plans and what not post em up be more than happy to chat. also if anyone has a good crank im interested all that i can find is a refurbished one and i dont trust em....

I am in a toss up between turbo or supercharger ill prolly go turbo when it gets down to it but my plan was to use the old intake but modify it for a m112 supercharger off of a cobra i have found one other guy who said he had one and took measurments to see if it would fit and it bearly did. BUT he never did the build. so thats why im leaning towards turbo bc noone has done a m112 sc and i cant afford to start it and it not work. but to answer your questions ill prolly go T3 turbo to help with the lag thats one thing that will drive me nut is to have turbo lag.

Just speaking from experience. unless you get it powder coated Every one I have seen starts to rust through the paint. Its no big...its a goddamned truck motor, its supposed to be dirty and loud and make a ***** ton of horsepower, not look pretty...500hpKA240sx wrote:and as far as rust ill prolly cry if i see that LOL but its not going to be my DD so it souldnt be doing that for a while
Go Supercharged all the cool kids are doing it.
I'm working on my own M62 project, aiming for a much more modest number, but it'll still be fun.

How will a cleaned and rust free block eat through paint? lolsuperDorifto wrote:Just speaking from experience. unless you get it powder coated Every one I have seen starts to rust through the paint. Both of my clean and painted blocks...hot tanked, primered and painted, as well as my friend's build eventually rusted through...
given enough heat cycles you eventually end up breaking through the base coat.
Not to take away from the original poster's thread, but are you able to post a single response without being a complete dick?
I've lurking on here for years, and only recently started posting after I bough another 240, but every single one of your posts sounds like it belongs on zilvia....granted some of them are informative, but still just wondering, why the atitude?

Great start to what could be an epic build. For what its worth, I put about 17,000 miles on my KA-T with only a single paint job with Duplicolor high temp paint, and no primer. With all the prep work and time invested, I think you should be just fine here. Keep the posts coming, we all enjoy it.

I spent $1100 for bottom end. $800 for piston/rod and $300 machine labor. Ideal pricing you got.

Good start on the build. What are the plans on the stereo system?
I built custom boxes just under 2 cubic ft for my coupe.
They kinda tucked in the sides from the strut tower back and left me a little room in the center. Im thinking of doing a single 15 later on in the spare tire area.

Not sure about the placement of that supercharger. The outlet is facing down, and to have it up that high relative to the intake runners is gonna take a bit of fabricating to get everything sealed back up.
Also unless you are running an M90 or larger I think you might fall a little short of your power goal.

im going to fiberglass the boxes and the supercharger is sitting down bc that was the only decent one i could find to crop turn it counter-clock wise 90 degrees then thats how i want it mounted...and i want to try and make the m112 work so thats why i think 350-400 whp was reasonable on a fully built motor. and as far as fab work goes i can do that just wondering if anyone thought it would be possible.

Please do not take any personal offense but please use MDF when constructing speaker enclosures. I wish you were in AZ. I would like to do a sponsored build up a 240 with a sick enclosure. Check out a few pics on facebook. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

Man, I'm gonna be totally honest, I was interested in this thread until I got to the audio setup. Not trying to be an ass hole but you should really rethink that. I can understand if you want a big booming stereo, not knocking you on that, but that is not the way to go about it at all. More speakers doesn't equate to better sound. That setup is going to sound like an absolute train wreck. Keep up the good work on the motor build though...
