F1Altima Build (Finished but more to come)

Post by F1Altima »

I actually bought this car that was already turbo'd and fully built. I figured i't would save me alot of time and instead of starting from scratch i could build it further

Some year old pics: and vids

On about 16psi:

A recent pic:

This dyno took place two weeks after buying the car, one week after blowing the head gasket, and one day after putting the head back on... Wastegate gasket and intake piping couplers leaking all over..

I finally have alot of time to work on this car, the biggest road block has been ignition related problems due to aem ems but after thats resolved this thing is going to another level  alot of changes have been made and even more coming. I'll try and keep you guys posted!

Aem series 1, basically it has trouble reading the stock ignition trigger signals accurately/consistently. Added mods to my sig. Polished head with stock internals so far but i have a set of jwt cams and adjustable cam gears ready to be swapped in. I'm also going to install brian crower springs, that should help open up some power uptop (choked miserably on the dyno). Plans for the car is to make it the fastest possible while maintaining it as a daily driver. Methanol injection should help me run 25psi (currently at 17psi) daily, maybe i'll even go flex-fuel and bump it upto a 30psi daily driver but first i need to clear the aem ems problems. In the meantime i modified the downpipe to install an electric cut out:

A.C.T 6 Puck Clutch
Custom Short Shifter
Stillen Strut Bar
ST Rear Sway Bar
Whiteline Front Sway Bar
Racing Line Endlinks
Brembo Drilled/Slotted Rotors
GC Springs/Tokico Struts

I also have a spare fully built bottom end ka24de with custom carillo rods, custom cp pistons(fully-coated), coated acl rod and journal bearings, as well as a modified high speed oiling system for the crankshaft. Basically this bottom end should be able to handle 1500whp, but really it's just over engineered on purpose so that one day i can make 600whp consistently and the engine still be reliable.
CP pistons looked awesome before coating service:

O_O even better after lol:

sounds like a solid build! better be careful boosting that much on a stock block lol, when do you spool? and was the 24 tooth/hole cas disk from aem instaled? or is it stock?

Current block is fully built also except i'm running crower rods and arias pistons. I have some logs i'll see if i can dig them up and post them but it's at full spool at around 4200rpms. I tried installing the 24 tooth wheel but ran into some sort of resonance where the engine stuttered and stumbled at 1500rpms, 3000rpms, 4500 rpms and so on... I just put the stock disk and am taking my chances it doesn't loose sync everytime i go full throttle.

Maybe take it somewhere and see of they can figure it put? It seems like the aem instals are hit and miss, my series 2 install went perfect

Hmmm i've been leaning towards buying and aem 2, also hear the aem 2 eventually will have a flex fuel option, that would be a deal maker for me. Actually, i want to buy a plug and play standalone for the altima that allows flex fuel but there are none that i know of. And since this is a picture thread:

MS has been using the gm flex fuel sensor.

Looking good dude, that was Brian's car correct?

I may turbo the '93 one day if I end up keeping it, keep up the nice work...

Can you describe the modified high speed oiling system for the crankshaft? I'm a bit curious..

Thanks, yeah this was brian's old car. A turbo'd altima is definately a rare sight to behold indeed, and it still serves it's purpose. With a standalone ecu, 35mpg with 350whp is very attainable, not many new cars can do that. I love parking next to an old beat up altima(especially if it's also white), puts the other owner to SHAME hahaha.

the series 2 can do flex fuel but its not perfect yet, you use the gm or zetronix ethanol sensor 0-5v output and then use fuel and ignition trim tables to change tune.

I haven't taken a look at it yet but i was told that the journal is modified to direct oil differently. I'll update you guys when i can snap some pics.

It would be nice to see back to back comparisons on coated vs noncoated pistons for detonation resistance with the ka's combustion chamber design. Are you going to try and break it so that you can put the other motor in?
My wife "haven't you spent enough time and money on that car yet?" my answer "no"

Yeah it would be interesting to see but i'm currently running arias 8.8:1cr and the other engine is going to be cp pistons with 9:1cr so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. The cylinder head combustion chamber will also be coated to take full advantage. Also i'm going to be using custom cp pistons that have the pins relocated 1mm further up to accomodate 1mm longer connecting rods so the setup will deffinately be different from the current. As far as the current engine it should handle 600whp also but i'm going to focus on doing something with my transmission because i think it'll go out like at 400whp...

Can you ask the technician that coated your pistons why the did not coat the contact surface around the ring-lands?

You have two friction surfaces on your piston skirts now, rather than one.
