Zenki Lip made for Chuki bumper

Post by 500hpKA240sx »

Hey guys its been a very long time since my last post. Life has thrown me a few speed bumps and just been busy...Now to the point of this post, Im just curious how many people would be interested in a Chuki-fitted, fiberglassed, Zenki bumper lip. One that requires very little modding and is a 98% bolt on lip. Just post your thoughts on it and if you would buy one or not.

soon. I should have my brackets back from the fab shop tomorrow and then I will have one made. pics will be up by thursday. it will look just like a factory pig lip but glassed and will fit the shark nose without modifications. only thing that will need to be done is two holes drilled in the bottom for the bolts. and if ever decided to be removed they will never show.

this is really random but my bud wrote an educational post about installation. bare with the comedy, hes no goon were all just jokesterz on the local forum. clearly the OP already knows this cuz he knows to drill NEW holes.
abe froman wrote:no, you're not the only one who sees how bad this can look.

but it's due to poor execution, not a bad idea.

DISCLAIMER
i'm not trying to single anyone out, just grabbed a picture from this thread that illustrates poor execution
and the oversight of spacial relationships and how they convey a pleasurable signals to the brain.

okay here we go.

here's a pignose lip on a pignose:
Image

here's a pignose lip on a silvia:
Image

here's a pignose lip on DriftFaction Dave's car back in 2005:
Image

here's the 2009 run-of-the-mill pignose lip application:
Image
Image

one of these things is not like the others.
who caught the difference?

it's BODYLINES people. and in order for a car to look good while adding body parts, these lines need to match.

step1
now take a look back at the pictures again. see the door indent, the strip tape line, and the rocker panel line on all four cars?
they're parallel. always and forever.

step2
now look again at the lip on the top three cars. which line does the lip coincide with?
yup. lines up with the rockers. like nissan knew it would.

step3
now the ugly task of dissecting the usual 240 owner application on the fourth car. what's that lip saying?
it's screaming "I DON'T ****ING BELONG HERE"

step4
visual demonstration: the key on all four pictures is the cirlced area below
Image

may be a bit difficult to grasp due to the perspective of that picture, but i think it made it painfully clear.

the green lines match. parallel.

that red line is making the green lines angry by not playing nicely and ****ing everything up on this car.
even the bumper indent just above the lip is parallel with the bodylines. it has to be, or else it'd look stupid.

conflicting bodylines are what made supra spoilers on 4-door civics looks god-awful.
it wasn't that giant wings were ugly.
it wasn't even that civic sedans were ugly.

it's that the bodylines DID NOT ****ING MATCH.

SO HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE SAW, BUT STILL MISSED:
Image

a NEW HOLE needs to be drilled for this lip, so that it coincides with the car's factory bodylines.
the holes people are using are for fender extensions, and are not placed properly for retro-fitting the lip.

the old school guys (koguchi, above) knew this. that's why their car designs are timeless and
still drooled over today.

nissan knew this. which is why the lip matched perfectly on the pignose.

a few of us locals knew this. hence dave's car got drilled quick fast and in a hurry.

so don't be offended because i get all hostile and arrogant and pretentious. just heed the info, and kick bad habits.
i want us all to have nice-looking cars, not be ignorant 'the next civic' ricer copycats.

*sigh*
thanks for reading if you did. educate yourself if you didn't.

yeah that last pic looks like **** and thats why I decided to cast a mold of one and make a whole new lip with brackets that fit the shark and the holes would be remade to fit the fender so it will be more of a direct bolt on with no very little modification I will have picture up here in a day or so

i got an s14 so i dont even know but if those piggy lips are getting rare its a great idea... otherwise, you just can beat OEM fit finnish and quality.... just install it right. not to mention you can drive over an OEM lip and its fine, FG cracks insanely easy, especially when low to the ground.

Here in MO you cant hardly find a broken one for under 50 bucks people think they are gold. But being they only came on select 40's for only 2 years they are getting scarce. most I see are usually broken. and if these move relativity quick or I have like 10 or so people wanting them I am going to go with grade A carbon fiber. I cant afford to make the carbon ones yet, I need to know how many people would even be interested.

ok here is the raw mold and then trimming it up. came out pretty damn nice and i held it up to my chuki and it fit great. Ill post pics of it mounted after I paint it. but on to the pics!

this is the only hole you need to drill in the bumper for the bolts. and these are the brackets that are molded into the the final product

Looks good Kyle. You should try molding fender extensions. The one I bought from you is still good but the passenger side busted when I was doing some donuts. I know a lot of people look for them.

do you just mold these over a stock lip? just curious what your limitations are for the sake of my brain storming.

yes, I cast a negative mould over the stock lip and then hand lay glass and resin to make the positive side. and as far as limitations it just depends. I am a very picky person so like doing fender flares would be difficult b/c getting them to be a perfect mirror for the opposite side would be a bit of a challenge. but anything can be made.

interesting. i was just pondering some sort of a rear lip. i have an accord lip but i dont like how it doesn't connect in the middle. id have to build a connector out of wood or something in order to be able to negative mold it huh.

i should mention, excellent looking work man!

thanks man that means a lot and what I would do is:
-use lauan and then epoxy the sides together.
-then use expanding foam and spray it on the lauan
-sand the foam down to the shape you want.
-pull the whole lip off the car
-coat the foam with filler and resand down smooth
-cast a negative mould
-then cast your positive mould and your all set

keep in mind something this big will cost you about 300 bucks. your not making just the positive you have to make the negative and all the material plus special stuff like release wax and gel coat. (gel coat is not necessary)

These will help a lot.
