I am hoping this will give me full boost about 500rpm's sooner. This is at 40psi with a 64mm turbine but same 9cm^2 housing. I still have the 60mm turbine which I think I read somewhere around 67-69lbs/min.

No, these units are independently balanced. I rebuilt this this turbo back in February but kept the wheel as close to the original position just for the what if's.

But the comp wheel is zero balanced. There are grinds on the back of the wheel. As videos will show with the batmowheel, it is a direct drop in.

I am glad to see other member's updating there builds. Adam, TurboTuner, and Gotenk. For the new guys, keep it up.

I also and trying to change things up. I need to modify my manifold. This requires cutting and welding back. Once I do that I am golden. Here is a vid.

So I finally got some time to play with the manifold. I don't have have a TIG so I have been using a 220 ARC welder with E6013 rods. I also forgot about the option from s14fiend but oh well. I know this is not ideal but it got the job done. These runners are SCH 40 1.25 pipes with good meat and it worked decent. I have some rough welds as this was my first time really stick welding but I got a hang of it. I am in this for the hobby and enjoy doing this although it may not be up to peoples standards.

I was able to cock the flange away. After I did this, I put the angled adapter on and it worked good but hit the hood. I left it be to clean the house and what not. During this time, a subscriber said to use a different adapter. I then found this flush type that only raises about .5 inch. I ordered one and waiting for it in the mail. Once that comes in, just to redo my down pipe and weld wg flange. Then I am all set.

Vids of the progress.

Thanks. The pics give it no justice nor do I know how to properly take a pic. This thing sits in front like a 2j with a bad a$$ mani. I am really stoked about how she sits now. Just to get my parts. When I install the wheel, I am also going to repolish the housing with 2000 wet and a buff. Should get that crap off and get back shiny again.

I love where it puts the turbo. Why did you need to modify it so much? Did the turbo hit something? I looked back a few pages but didn't see any pics of the fitment before you started modding it.

Yea, I definitely know I can build one from scratch but I tell you it is quite intensive. Line, measure, cut, line, measure, grind, line measure, grind again to get a good fit. Then visualizing when the pipe goes this way it will cock and change the other angles of anything connected to it. Once you think you have it good, then tack weld and make sure all is good. Then cut the tack welds and do most of your welding on a table so you do have to weld around the other runners. If I had a TIG, it would have been easier to weld but again this is only if I can get a hang of it which I know I can do. My back and forearms were sore as hell. But looking back at it, it was all worth it. Just waiting for these dam parts to come in so I can move on to the next step.

So I finally got her done. But the downside, is that my injector is acting up. Bought a set of injectors last night and should be here Friday. Can't wait to see whats up. I did notice the turbo spinning much longer after I turn off the car. Guess that extra piping is holding in some air. Also, I drove with 3 cylinders but no boost and the turbo is blowing off when louder than it did before with 4 cylinders and old manifold. Hope this mani does wonders.

Thanks. I got my injectors Thursday afternoon and was sneezing by 8pm. This manifold unlocked some power overall through the whole power band but noticeably on top. I drove her to work Friday then Saturday night, my wife and I went to go for a ride like little kids again and get some food. A BMW 335i tried overtaking me and half of 3rd sent him packing. As I did that, an Audi did a ricer fly by and was gone. I was waiting for him to stop but he kept going so I dropped into 3rd and chased him just for the hell of it. As I catch up to him about 3 cars back, he starts pulling at about 100mph. I drop in 4th and start to reel him in but I hit rev limiter. That is an automatic red flag to chill since 4th is around 140mph. On the street it is retarded plus I don't like highway racing. A 40/60 roll or dig is my kind of thing. After that, I woke up the next morning at 530am and went to tune for high boost. This manifold really woke up the HE351. She pulls nice and rocks the nose up and down in between shifts more than it has ever did.

Looking good. Did you notice any loss of spool with the tubular manifold? I'm surprised the wastegate dump isn't louder. I suppose running high boost helps that.

No loss. I picked up spool. Probably like 300. I think since the runners are longer, it allows for the violent combustion to calm down before it exits the dump tube.

I did some more tuning in 1st for take off and decel enleanment. I was able to make a WOT pull and have the idle sit right back at 1k when throwing into neutral or pressing the clutch to slow down. I made 1st gear more driveable in terms of taking off. The accel enrichment is good but after the short burst of fuel, it would go lean for a split second and have a lil hesitation. Now I can mash the gas in 1st with no hiccup. All the other gears are fine. I also got my idle stabled out more by adding more fuel and timing. When cams were introduced, 20* of timing is not adequate for my car. The advanced timing helps speed up the crank in between the cam lopes. A lot of this tweaking came from me reading Engine Management: Advanced Tuning book. I really didn't learn anything new but it fortified more of what I already know so it was a good read. I find that when I read a book, it gets my gears rolling and I start to try different things out. Plus the reassurance of advanced timing after MBT will not blow your HG or lift the head. That is how I blew my Cometic most likely. I had 20* of timing at 20psi at 4k until redline. Now I am at 17.5* and ramp up to 20* I believe by redline. I need to get on a dyno to start increasing timing in boost after 4500 and see how the curve goes. One day.

Can you elaborate on what you did for off idle and 1st gear driveability? Can you post your msq?

Basically, I use the map for deleanment. Low load high rpm means less fuel and advance timing. Then as it gets close to idle, blend it in. As for first gear, I start to roll then mash the gas and see what happens. I use VE live but also tweak myself manually to get the results I want faster rather than having to do 10+ reenactments for ve live. It is nothing special but since I do not have a load bearing dyno for free, I have to reenact in real life. I will post my map later. I need to clean it up a bit.

Just a little update. The vid says it all but in a nut shell, I saw a bike run pass me, put in high boost and hit 30+ psi with 10.0AFRs, Everything fine, after 10 min, Put in low boost and hit 2nd, Blow a free plug out the block again, Issue looks like intake thermal gasket with coolant port and cyl one, put on felpro and freeze plug, sneezing again. I drove her twice and made pulls. No mixing water/oil, no loss of power, or head lift but I need to double check and make sure coolant is not dropping. If no drop, then thermal gasket. If dropping, then hg issue or lift. Also no coolant reservoir overflowing.

I caught that on your Youtube channel yesterday. I had thought about running the thermal gasket that came with my Xcessive mani. I wondered how effective it could actually be though since we have coolant running through the intake manifold. Regardless, I definitely won't be running it now.

BTW, are you running exhaust gaskets or just high temp RTV? I've got some nice Remflex gaskets to run on mine, but after looking around on various forums (suuch as Turbo Buick forums), I saw a lot of people saying to not run exhaust gaskets and just use orange high temp RTV. One guy even had an explanation about how running exhaust gaskets can actually cause a manifold flange to warp over time.
