I'm just wondering who here is seriously drifting with their KA-T setups on a regular basis. I mean probably monthly or bi-monthly at a drift event. I'm trying to get a feel if this can be reliable or not. If so please post your set up. I'm currently planning for a t25 or t28 setup aiming for say 215whp. Let me know. Thanks.

It can be plenty reliable....with lots of tuning. With all the transient throttle inputs (in boost, out of boost, back in boost, etc) you need to have a really good tune that never goes lean, and never detonates. Those are 2 things you don't want in a turbo car anyways, but they are of paramount importance now.

Without a good tuning facility within reasonable distance of your location, is the KA-T still a reliable choice for high-power boosting applications? Are there ways around the need for dyno tuning?

If I HAD to, I could drive down to the GTA and get her all tuned up as I plan on doing anyway, but I cant afford to be making that 4 hour trip every weekend.

What kind of power are you looking for? If you are looking for huge numbers then you should probably spend the money on a stand alone.

Something like that you could use the JWT ECU for 370cc injectors and stock MAFS. JWT tunes are known to be on the safe side, and one guy ran a JWT program ( IIRC ) for years on his KA-T road racing and drifting. He goes by 97 SE TURBO, AKA "The White Bunny"

With an ECU tune you won't need to make the 4 hour drive and have an expensive standalone setup by expensive dyno tuners. I think for your power goals a tuned ECU will be fine.

Cool thanks for the replies guys. Yeah JWT ECU is what I was thinking. Do you guys think the SSA bottom mount manifold is a bad idea? I don't really see many T2 manifolds options.

^^^ I've heard they work well if you make a brace to help support the turbo in order to help prevent cracking.

KA-T's for drifting are so nice my buddy has a Nsport kit on his car and has been running its for a lil over 3 years now on stock internals on 1 bar of boost with only a HG so yeah get a t28 and go have fun and if u dont feel safe rock the stock 7 psi until u can spend the cash for a better tune a good tune is the LAST thing u want to skip

Click here to see Video the all black one in this video is Damien Bagleys s14. i think it makes 350 whp at the moment on a t70. he ran a 12.9 or so at 118 mph on some skinny 225/45/18 tires a few weeks back, then we went drifting the next day as shown in the video.
