AutoCon came to the Eastcoast for the first time! So after a proapproval process and registration completion, this event was in the schedule. It was NOT AT ALL an easy process to get there though. With the chassis still at the shop for fabrication work the morning of "drop-off day" at the show, there was a huge rush to get everything ready.
The whole body was dirty and had pineneedles on it, no bumper, no sideskirts and some other missing pieces. Running super behind time-wise, found the organizer's number and notified them that we were on the way with two cars (would've been 3, but that's a different story, hah). Then more traffic and further behind in schedule, but I was able to contact the organizers were kind enough to stay a little longer until we arrived. Some how we got there before they closed the doors to the convention center and now focus shifted toward the rush to get "show-ready" for the next day.

I resprayed the "bash-bar" that night and loaded it up in the transport car the the next morning (had the windows down the whole drive because of the fumes, haha). That morning we rushed in, dusted everything, claybar/deatail spray and waxed everything. The BridgeMoto 6pt digicam harness and license plate was installed and the interior was cleaned up.

Despite the missing body pieces the car was well-received by many at the event.

Hi Everyone,Happy New Year! It seems like its been forever since the last post. The photo bucket hosting really put a damper on motivation post updates. I will try to post more on here.
For more "instant" updates, please feel free to check out my instagram @cleantune and @siks_tehn . I often use the "story" to post visual updates.

So THANKFULLY there is a "free" option for Photo bucket again; hoping this "free" option continues. So, as a result, time for some updates everyone!

A friend and I showed up with cars the day before Tuner Evo (TE) and found out there were no more early drop offs that day, so I unloaded the car and drove around the big lots for a bit in an attempt to burn off some excess fuel (for the req 1/4 tank rule). The tune is pretty efficient though, so I was gong to have to siphon the rest out. We drove all the way back home and had a VERY late the night before Tuner Evo Philly. A friend's car had a fuel leak, so I went over to help figure out and help find a solution. Then went back to siphon gas out of the 240 tank in the dark in the back of a trailer (on top of all the other little things that needed to be finished before going). May have gotten 1 hr of sleep, maybe, hah. Did a quick detail once we were in:

If anyone is ever around this area, the show is at the Greater Philadelphia expo center and there is a lot of places in the area to get food and a movie theater; all whith in 5 min drive or less.

There was an autox event on Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point at the end of last year called the "Refrigerator bowl". Its basically a point to point race on the circuit with a cool down section before arriving back at grid. It was a good opportunity to try out some different parts and learn one's own setup a little better. One of the Drift Nirvana coordinators "Rapper Dan" was there along with some other members.

It was COLD that day, so warmed up with a 360 haha:

Not too much has changed with the engine setup; just put the oil cooler back in with a partsshopmax oil filter relocation and plumbed in the accusump with an electronic pressure control valve.
Old dyno sheet from R/T:

Had the valve coaver coated by Bonehead Performance and did a few little things to tidy up the appearance of the engine bay for the show that was planned for the end of January:

towards the end of last year (2017), we had partnered up with Automotive Training Center (ATC) to help promote their school and all the great opportunities and variety of classes they have to offer their students:

The show was a great success. We had many opportunities to talk to people at the event; talking about the services ATC provides for their students, educating about products we used on these cars, as well as talking with them about their own builds and plans. Overall it was a great time. The event ended the same day as the superbowl and the weather wasn't too great, but thankfully we managed to get out of the city before the game was over and before temps dropped below freezing.

Decided to make some big changes in the engine bay. I will be parting out the entire current engine setup. Please feel free to message me on here if interested in anything. Can ship any bolt ons right away. The internals will be ready following the block teardown that I will be documenting on here. More updates coming soon, stay tuned everyone!

What are these big changes? Don't hold out on us!
Wiseco/Eagle, JWT S1 cams, BC valve springs, PT5857, ID1700 injectors, SR20DET ECU w/ Nismotronic, etc, etc...

...oh ya know...things

I'll post updates as stuff changes. I can plan for months to do something and then decide to change it last minute :dunno:

More pics, and again if anyone sees something they like on this engine setup- literally anything (radiator, fans, powersteering pump, etc),
lemme know. Haven't got to block disassembly because I plan to shoot some vid footage for everyone, but planning on doing this soon!

Starting the prep for pulling the engine:
Image

The straps were kinda stretchy, but worked; and before anyone points this out, the strap looped around the downpipe wasn't supporting any weight (just tied it to get it out of the way). Left the shifter on too, so had to reach through the trans tunnel to remove it, lol.

Image

...aaaaaaaand its out! (with some help from some fellow enthusiasts of course)

WHaT A MeSs....

Started taking pics of individual parts (all for sale) from this setup. Will be starting a fs thread on here with part detail listed.

These pipes are incredibly lightweight; all aluminum:

Inverted GReddy FMIC with Vibrant aluminum 90's. Some very Minor battle scars on the FMIC; no penetrations though:

Bottom (now top crushed fin area):

Currently working on disassembling the bolt ons- someone thought it was a "good" idea to tack weld every bolt holding the turbo onto the manifold; ugh.
Also working on simplifying the mess in the engine bay. I post progress on this much more often on my instagram story (@cleantune). More updates on the Way!

VERY interesting and perplexing finds so far with this engine. Just to preface as to WHY....
This engine has been through some complete rebuilds (full disassembly more than once before) and I was NOT directly involved with the part choice, specs, or final assembly (HUGE mistake, but did this to save time). So far I have found the following with the engine alone....

1. exhaust leak due to the gasket not sealing properly (from nuts that were not tight to spec)

2. BC cams are two different sizes, with the Larger on the intake side (WHY on earth would we take in more air than we can send out?!)

3. I've read BC cams that needed to be machined (cut off distributor end that is used on altima KA) also need to be swapped with the intake cam when using in the 240sx KA motor (can someone please confirm this?!), but clearly the only cam that was machined is STILL on the Exhaust side?!

4. Pics below show that this head is not a 240sx head, but as someone had pointed out to me, it looks to be a Nissan Frontier head. Note the "missing" 11th and 12th cam caps near the rear of the engine. I looked up the speedometer clusters for both and the 240sx cluster appear to redline 1k higher than the Frontier Tach.

...Just at a loss for words right now; if I am overreacting someone please tell me- I'm just trying to wrap my head all this- Everything just is not making sense to me at the moment. My curiousity as to how much better this would have ran with different parts and my direct involvement with the engine build continues to grow stronger with every new layer that is uncovered.

Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the internals!!! :icon-rolleyes:

I think it's your original head - '97-98 240sx / KA24 heads did not have the rearmost cam towers...

You'll need to press the oil plug in further to be sure you maintain oil pressure.

^ thanks Brian, I'll take another look at it.

For those who are not already following my instagram (@cleantune), I have been posting videos and pictures of the engine teardown and hope to have a POV video of the engine disassembly up on yt by the end of the month (I'll post the link here when available). Again EVERYTHING for this engine is for sale "as is" and I'd be happy to send you additional pics or provide more info upon request. FS thread will be posted sometime this month or next.

Currently working on simplifying the wiring and barely resisting the urge to redo ALL of the electrical harnesses and fuse/relay boxes.
