|
Hey guys, i decided to spend some money this summer on detailing equipment. I got tired of waxing by hand and not getting the results i wanted. So i did some research on Autopia.org and ended up purchasing a Porter-Cable, some Sonus SFX polishes and Klasse paint sealant.......heres the results:
I have to say, the polishes really made a difference, but what i can't get over is the Klasse. It really left the paint smooth and left it with a candy-coated look. Even a month later, after just a wash, the paint looks as good as the day i detailed it and is just as smooth. I went ahead and polished my sister's 96 subaru, and used the sealant on Both my parents cars (G35 and merc milan) all came out looking outstanding. Supposedly the sealant lasts roughly 6-8 months, so i should be good till spring time. Let me know what you think. _________________ 93 240sx SE fastback

looks really good man, but how rough was it before you buffed it? was it really faded alot or was it just normal semi-dull? reason i ask is my g/f has an s13 the same color as yours and ive been thinking about doing this to her car but didnt know if it would be worth my time, her paint is badly faded on the roof trunk and hood but is still sort of glossy everywhere else _________________ arias pistons, eagle rods, all arp hardware, felpro hg, ported/polished head, clevite bearings, z32 maf, EFI specialist ecu, deatchworks 550's, walbro 255lph fuel pump, z32 fuel filter, aem wideband, garrett gt28 turbo, fidanza 11lb fw, spec stg3+ clutch, megan track coilovers, obx lsd |

well my paint has always been in pretty good condition, i generally wax it at least once a year, but i was just looking for something a little less intensive.
take a look at this article on Autopia:
http://www.autopia.org/forum/guide-detailing/80224-paint-clinic.html
about 1/3 down the page, there is a before and after on a red miata trunk. If this is what your gf's car looks similar to, there is definitely hope. If you car's paint is in pretty good shape for the most part, i HIghly recommend Klasse All-in-One. Its so much easier and better looking, and longer lasting than waxing. You can even do the Klasse by hand if you dont want to bother getting a buffer.
By the way, iswoontehchix, the car is boosted... _________________ 93 240sx SE fastback

I can't get over how nice it looks. Very sleeper car - what kind of setup are you running?
I'm considering taking some time and giving my paint some love here very soon seeing your car now. If this crappy Florida weather will let up on the weekends I'm gonna give it a go. |

setup is a basic t25, most of the parts are in my sig below. I find the best time to wash/wax the car is after dinner when the sun starts going behind the trees and there is some shade. then i can work out in the driveway instead of in the garage. _________________ 93 240sx SE fastback

I always wash my car late in the day. Especially as hot as it gets here lately in summer. I'm gonna give this a shot this weekend - I've got some oxidation I'd like to sand off and buff up a little.
EDIT: Did you purchase your detailing products in say Advance Auto / Autozone or did you order them online? |

very impressive .. I myself am a detailer and you did an awesome job...next time show pics of before and after... here is few of my work:
here is a link of all my work: http://www.importfanatix.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=5176
Finally Ive got a chance to fix and compile all these photos.. it took me a good 4 days, to finish cause I had to do a lot of intricate detail and touch ups since the car has some rock chips that formed rust and I had to grind up with dremel and touched it up with POR150 since the car is black anyways because touch-up OEM paint will just chip off.. and this is her daily driver and she wants to maintain the car and make it look pretty at the same time..
Maintanance:
Removed front wheels to clean inside out
-degreased wheel wells and wiped and sprayed with undercoating
-wire brushed all suspension and degreased and dried and coated the caliper with 3 silver caliper paint and 3 layers clear coat.
-Dried and coated the wheel wells with some old liquid wax to add shine and protection
WASH
-Foamed the car with CG citrus
-Rinse then Washed again with MF wash mit with 2 bucket method and grit guard
Clay
-CG ligh clay with CG luber and Eagle one QD
- had so much contaminants and about worked the clay up 4x
Wash
-CG citrus wash mit with 2 bucket method and grit guard
-Dried with CG MF fluffer
Inspected the car and had a lot of oxidation, light to heavy swirlmarks, rock chips, rust so it was time for IP with this job
Polish
-Menzerna IP with yellow 7.5" LCC (i didnt get my 5.5" yet so I had to use this pad)
-Menzerna FP with white 7.5" LCC
QD the whole car to wipe all the extra polish dust
-CG eazy creme glaze applied and buffed by hand
-CG JetSEAL 109 hazed and applied very thin layer and applied buffed by hand
-Actually waited the car to cure for 24 hours just to be safe..
LSP
-QD the whole car
-BLITZ wax applied and buffed by hand
-Cured the car for another 24 hours
-P21S second coat to fill in areas uncovered and give extra wet and glossy look
YUCKY
YUCKY..
WOW...
HARDWORKING
BREAK and my friend came over brough over his old school PENTAX SLR and some russian camera .. very nice...
BEADING on wax

| That clay stuff is worth is weight in gold. Anyone with an oxidized look or grimey paint on their car will absolutely love it. |

Autopia is a really good resource for paint detailing...I also have the Porter cable.
I on the other hand don't like Klasse very much at all. I always found Klasse Sealant Glaze to be way too much of a hassle to apply...too thick/too longon the paint and it was impossible to buff out. Do you have Klasse Sealant Glaze or just All in One? Klasse All In One doesn't have protective properties, it's more of a prep step.
Here's my work on my white 240sx.
