head - at the least new valve seals

hand the shop your short block parts, get your block magnafluxed to check for cracks and cleaned if you are worried about the overheating, good idea regardless
talk to the shop, ask them to fit your parts, balance the parts, assemble (may require bore for pistons)
you can have them check the head/top of block to verify they are within spec, if they want to machine those make sure they have your timing covers as well

the normal machining isnt too costly(clean, bore, deck), balancing adds to the price but is worth it the more you use the higher rpms

yes surfacing the block and head will up the compression. Most ka blocks i have seen do not need to be decked.

I believe miami240 is in south florida. You should contact him on here.

decking isnt going to significantly up you compression and is going to need to be done to true everything up. and also, low compression is so 2005. run some good compression in that thing and have it tuned well.

you may need to source an oversized headgasket (or the machine shop will for you) if it gets decked. Thats the only reason I am running a cometic at the moment, because felpro didnt make oversized gaskets for the application according to the shop

+1

Im running a thicker Cometic (1.5mm) as well due to resurfacing. Also, make sure they machine your front timing covers with the block/head as well.

Yup, they make a 2mm gasket if I'm not mistaken. That's what I have. Or a .078 I think.

Didn't deck or plane anything. Slapped it on there. With 8.8 pistons, I'm lucky if I'm above 8:1 lol

Before you do any machine work, get it checked to see if everything is within spec. Don't machine junk parts.
