Re: Nistune VE Map Tuning

I've been following this myself over on the Nistune board. When I get around to tuning next spring I will definitely try setting the whole ve map to 128. At least now it seems that there is a way to disable the Alpha-N mode, by setting Alpha/N increase fuel to 255. It is nice that Matt has been maki...

Re: OBDII emissions testing, feasibility of adding turbo?

I tried to keep my '96 emissions passible and the issue that I ran into was the ecu not passing the "readiness checks". I had my egr closed off, and had a resistor in place of the ecr temperature sensor. I even tried the Nissan recommended drive patterns to get the checks to set. No dice, ...

The valve cover doesn't get nearly as hot as, say, the head or block and can be painted with pretty much any type of paint. I agree, it really doesnt get that hot. The first time around I used high temp engine paint and I found it to be really brittle, chipped very easy. The second time around I us...

In addendum to what the other responders have stated you can use thread sealant on AN fittings but only pipe threaded sections. I.e. not on the AN flare, internal or external. What you linked to is high temperature gasket sealer and is not intended for threads. Should be ok to use on the sandwich pl...

This may seem blatantly obvious but take a look at the Nistune Support Documentation: Link
The Software User's Manual basically runs through what was discussed earlier in this post. The Nissan ECU Tuning Basics then should give you an overview of all aspects of tuning.

Stock ECU? If so you cannot connect another maf to the stock ecu without something to adjust the signal it sends to the ecu (Daughterboard, rom tune, piggyback, etc). You wondered, now you found out.

I am running a Calum RT ecu in a '95 ecu. Of course this is no longer available. There are only like 4 pins that need to be changed to use a '95 ecu in a ≥'97 car, so no conversion harness is nessasary. There is a how-to in the support section at Jim Wolf Technology. Then nistune can be installed on...

A bar is a unit of pressure. 1 bar = 14.5 psi, 2 bar = 29psi, etc. The map sensor reads absolute pressure so even at zero boost the sensor is reading around 15 psi, because that is atmospheric pressure. To read 20psi of boost you will need a 3 bar map sensor. As for the whole use a map sensor for TP...

You cannot adjust the SAFC just sitting there, idle is a open loop condition. Drive the car, get going at a constant speed and then adjust the correction for that rpm level to get around 14.7 on the a/f meter. Copy that correction across the other levels then start making pulls at different throttle...

Sure a tuned ecu will work but so will the safc.
If the safc is not changing the A/F ratios at all then something must be wired or set up wrong. You did wire it in between your maf signal right?

In theory 370s and an N60 maf should cancel each other out...in actuality it don't work so well. The N62 is even bigger, 550s would be closer to canceling out. Like the above poster stated, wait till you have something to tune with.

You really aught to try to get the air/fuel ratio as close to 14.7 as you can at idle and under cruise, otherwise the ecu will try to correct it and it can mess up your corrections in other rpm areas. Does it lean out at all when you get moving or up to a constant speed? You can very roughly adjust the k-value by free revving to 3000rpm or so but the real tweaking should happen in a higher gear on a level road. Adjust K first then latency, then readjust k, etc.
