CC White bunny throw out bearing
Ok so I just blew my 3rd ka tranny, finally bought the mazworx ka to vg kit. I'm currently running competition clutch"s white bunny 6 puck kit and I'd like to use a fresh TOB... Now I searched and didn't really find a single definitive answer here about what throw out bearing exactly is used in their white bunny kit. All I know is that I would like to use the OEM z32 koyo bearing...however it's physically thinner than CC"s. In my mind I'm thinking it may not be a bad thing because since I installed this clutch it engages really high even when adjusted....and I wonder if their abnormally thick bearing is to blame....I've compared it to the stock KA bearing and vg30 bearing and it's thicker than both....I figure I'll call ask CC tomorrow and maybe even enjuku to see what they say....attached a photo so you guys can see how much thicker the cc is compared to the z32.

Interesting... subscribed. The pedal has quite a lot of adjustment but I see where you're coming from... if it's dragging.
I JUST replaced mine when I had the trans out. From the CC white bunny unit to a SKF 240 throwout bearing. If memory serves they were the same size. I have a bnib Koyo 240sx throwout bearing at home. I'll mic it and throw up pics if you're interested.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Interesting convo with competition clutch, they said either bearing will work fine and that the thickness isn't as big a deal as it being the correct diameter...I guess they must know that there's enough adjustment in the pedal to compensate for the thickness differences....so I'm gonna use the new z32 koyo bearing that I have. Appreciates the offer to measure stuff but looks like it should be ok!

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Was told to use the ka bearing sleeve with z32 TOB.....bolted up that beast of a gearbox today , man mazworx makes some quality stuff. Unfortunately i cant test anything out until I get my driveshaft from mazworx which has been delayed . Nice thing about the z32 box is the maintenance window in the tranny, got to watch the clutch operate and see the fork and TOB working nicely....can't believe the stock KA didn't have that.
Complaints
1. No way that tranny mount is gonna line up...the bolt holes are like 1/2" off ..don't know how mazworx messed that up but I hear it's a common issue and easy fix for me.
2. Wish I didn't have to cut a hole in my tunnel to accommodate that shifter, but at least that shifter is pretty damn nice.
I'm off cali for work on the 20th, I will be super pissed if I don't get to take her for a drive before I leave.

In for pics of the shifter. Good deal on that trans. This may be coming sooner than I like after my recent upgrades. Gotta resist the urge to make ebc pulls at 20 psi...

Running 215 w tires is your best bet .... When I first got my s14 money was tight, I had infiniti g35 wheels and all season tires....they won't hook up for **** so couldn't really kill the tranny.
My 245 federals is a different story. Shifter install coming later.... Pretty bummed mazworx said the shop that makes their driveshafts is down on parts and has a backlog of 15 driveshafts.

Fffuuuuu.... partial refund and driveshaftshop or shaftmasters?? I've bought from both of them and been happy with quality.

https://www.driveshaftshop.com/import-d ... fts/nissan
They both have a ton of configurations.

Killed my transmission today just driving down the road. 400 wtq and it gave up the ghost. Z32 trans time maybe? Looking at the Xcessive kit against Mazworx. what made you go w/ Mazworx out of curiousity?

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
I didn't get the xcessive kit because I don't like the idea of using a flywheel spacer....also I've never heard of anyone having any serious issues with the mazworx kit.....same can't be said for the xcessive kit....I think I read one of our guys on here found his bellhousing and adapter plate separating after a little while and others had vibration issues.....lastly mazworx has a great reputation.
With that said....it's been over a month and I still can't get my drive shaft from them so I haven't gotten to test out the new gearbox.....Im driving to Cali starting tomorrow for work again so bye bye 240 for another 3 to 6 months......christ....I need a win.
So here's what a win looks like:
3.3 twin turbo
Jb4 tune
Diy intakes
400whp 500tq

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Very nice on the Stinger. Looks like a blast. Good point on the spacer. I wondered how they were getting away without machining the bellhousing. Its getting close to winter time here and I've accepted I wont be driving it again until the spring. Last summer I cracked ringlands and my machinist had a 3 month backlog before he could get to me. I feel you man. Thankfully I got the z32 rear diff and J30 axles in so the tranny was my weak link. After this it should be solid. Or so help me god I am going to LS swap the bastard.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Lol yea I swapped the 3" aluminum shaft, j30 vlsd + axles on day one like 12 years ago when I bought the car....it was an auto so I figured I'd do the entire drivetrain one shot when swapped in the manual tranny.....good times... Paid $150 for a sr20 trans, $90 for a j30 diff and axles and $260 for an aluminum one piece drive shaft from shaft masters ( before they were super famous)....try finding those prices today man. In another 10 yrs dunno how were gonna find oem parts for these cars.....and if my ka fails I honestly am not sure what route I'd go....at this point I've probably got enough spare stuff to easily rebuild though

So, was thinking about shifter placement. You have the xcessive mounts right? Can you slide your engine forward enough to line it up? My xcessive motor mounts are slotted maybe 4-5".
Also did you send the bellhousing in or machine it yourself. Trying to see what needs to be machined so I can talk to my machinist and see if we can just do it here.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Sorry I was driving from FL to Cali.
I do have xcessive lowering mount brackets and gk tech urethane mounts. Mine are not slotted. I actually like the shifter placement, the only problem for me is that it slightly hits the left side shifter plastic boot trim...if you do slide your motor forward you shouldn't need more than 3-4" tops. And then you also wouldn't need to hack the trans tunnel, maybe.
As for machining, I bought a tranny unseen from a wrecker, had them drop ship directly to mazworx, they machined it and I live 2 hrs away so I picked everything up when they were done. Also seems like they shipped my driveshaft yesterday...yay.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
No worries
I ended up calling and talking to Mazworx. Got my bellhousing shipped off to him yesterday. There are some locating pins that need to be drilled so it isnt just milling the face of the housing down. I also asked about sliding the engine forward and he said no the trans bracket doesnt allow for it. The option would be to cut and shorten the shift linkage out of the back of the trans.
You already answered the last question i was going to ask which was how did you reinstall that spring loaded ball bearing on reassembly. You didnt. I guess Ill try some grease to hold it and just orient the trans so it goes in vertically until the spring is putting enough pressure to hold it in place.
Man is that z32 trans massive compared to the KA one!
How bad does your shifter hit? Like touches or bangs?

Touches, I just rather grind a little material off the shifter itself than scuff up my nice trim. And yes , the sheer size and weight of the tranny def gives me confidence to bang some shifts....can't wait to test it out when I get back to fl.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
I just got mine installed yesterday. You're going to love it. This thing is LEAGUES ahead of the tired KA trans that came out.
I am also having some rubbing in first and second on the shifter bezel. just the slightest but, yeah, a little grinding and the shifter would have some more clearance.
Completely echo your sentiments on build quality and craftsmanship. pics for anyone who looks this stuff up later on;
To anyone reading this later on, chances are the striking rod will be damaged/broken off like mine was. Z1, among other places, sells the OEM striking rod and pin. 6-bolts on the black cover gains you access to it. I used a 5mm punch and slipped a blue shop towel underneath before I punched the pin out so it didn't fall down in there. Once the old striking rod is pulled out, new one goes in and new pin to secure it to the arm/shift assy.
So the Z32 trans looks MASSIVE compared to the KA trans. The gears are much much beefier. It's a little heavier but I have no fears of killing this thing in the near future. I got this fine example with a claimed 120k miles for $600 shipped. I could have saved quite a bit if it were more local (shipping was close to $200) so if you aren't pressed for time like I was, do some shopping around. Seriously. these things go for cheaper than the KA trans. I have no clue why. drift tax?
Nice feature about the VG trans, the slot where the VG starter mounts makes for an AWESOME transmission window. Stabbing this thing was so much easier than the KA trans simply because you can see what's going on in there and get it aligned. The Mazworx kit re-uses the KA starter (they machine the bellhousing to allow clearance) so you get a plate to cover it instead of the VG starter. really cool and more clearance!
And that's where the new one sits. close-quarters.
Some things I had to look up;
The VG pivot is used with the KA clutch fork and throwout bearing.
torque values for reassembling the shell (for those of use who have to ship it in) can be found here;
https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 93_FSM.pdf
page 331. (23-31 ft-lb for the shell, 12-15 ft-lb for the front cover)
Bellhousing weighs about 24 lbs and fits in a 16 cube box for getting a shipping quote. I think I paid about $65 shipped from KS via Fed Ex. (that INCLUDED box and packing materials)

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Some more musings for my S14 brethren. When swapping over to the Z32 trans, the wiring will need to be adapted over for the speedo and back-up sensor. The plug itself fits for the back-up lights, but the switch is all the way back by the shifter so you'll have to lengthen the wires.
As for as the speed sensor, I got a new male pigtail here;
https://www.wiringspecialties.com/z32-3 ... connector/
And instead of doing the Dakota digital box,I just recalibrated my S14 speedo/odometer the cheap way;
So for 4.08 rear diff and 18" wheels, you want the points 7 and 5 connected and you'll have to remove the solder from points 4 and 3. I used solder wick and some flux, worked like a charm. I also went through like half a box of q-tips and a bunch of 91% isopropyl cleaning the old rosin off of the board. Man was it caked on. buckle up, that ****'s a mess.
for the odometer, you need a 6.8k ohm resistor on J2. I had a through-hole resistor but ideally you'll want to use a 682 SMD resistor. it'll fit much nicer.
Here's another angle before I reflowed 7 and 5. each of those points represents a % reduction in speed. For those using a 3.92 J30 diff you just want point 7 connected.

for the odometer, you need a 6.8k ohm resistor on J2.

It's 2020 bro, gps based or bust!
Mind you, I did that gauge cluster like 8 years or so back.
Everything still works flawlessly ...speedhut stuff is great, lifetime warranty is nice too.

Oh thats nice. I am working on 4 project cars, if I can make it work for free that's what I'll do. I know a guy who sells Speedhut though. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Stop buying speedhut gauges...
kidding. Project is a stretch for 2 of them. 4 day workweeks are the best, except for that 72hr/week stint I have to do for 2+ months every year and a half. Also my wife is awesome and understanding of my addiction.
But yeah, that's why my cheap ass is reworking PCBs instead of buying nice gauges, at least until I hit the lotto.
I really like that gauge setup though. Maybe I'll go that route when I sell the camaro...

Hello,NukeKS14 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 9:08 pm I just got mine installed yesterday. You're going to love it. This thing is LEAGUES ahead of the tired KA trans that came out.
I am also having some rubbing in first and second on the shifter bezel. just the slightest but, yeah, a little grinding and the shifter would have some more clearance.
Completely echo your sentiments on build quality and craftsmanship. pics for anyone who looks this stuff up later on;
To anyone reading this later on, chances are the striking rod will be damaged/broken off like mine was.
Regroupement de prêt immobilier
And that's where the new one sits. close-quarters.
Some things I had to look up;
The VG pivot is used with the KA clutch fork and throwout bearing.
torque values for reassembling the shell (for those of use who have to ship it in) can be found here;
https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 93_FSM.pdf
I think you are a connoisseur in the matter,
I have a few questions for you please

Yeah Nuke you are the Z32 Transmission connoisseur.... let us know how that conversation goes.Lucienne92 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 1:17 pm Hello,

I haven't gotten to beat on mine yet.....but for such an old transmission, it sure as hell shifts better than any ka/ sr trans I've ever used.....plus I'm way more confident 1st to 2nd slamming

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
I just installed a z1 shifter in mine. (The RHD version) i got better clearance than the mazworx piece and it feels way smoother. I'm hoping to get rid of all the buzzing and vibration noise i got on the hwy with the other. Will toss in pics if anyone is interested.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
That has been on my order list for the same reason, tried to pack the mazworx one with grease, it helped, but that buzzing sucks ass. Let me know if the z1 shifter solves the issue.

Re: CC White bunny throw out bearing
Buzzing/nvh 100% solved. Got the car out yesterday and it's so much quieter inside. That shifter is the final piece of the z32 trans puzzle. I would highly recommend it
