What separates the top guy in your area from say Forest Wang or Mike Pollard?
Skill? Time? Money? Connections? what is it? I've always wondered
what separates good drifters from pro drifters?

I think everything you listed is probably the case.
To be a pro, you have to have skill.
To get good, you have to have time (practice).
To practice, you need the money (for the car/equipment/track time).
To get money, a lot of the time connections would help (connections = sponsors).
FYI I've never drifted, but this would apply to just about anything.
Good luck! Nothing truly good happens overnight except for maybe winning the lottery or something.

The only thing you need is money........
With enough money you can buy your way into a car,
Just like any of racing. You won't know half the drivers becasue they never win. The only reason they are on the track is because they have anough money to support themselves.

thats not how life works. money is a deal breaker but so is intellegence, drive, determination, technical ability etc. You havent met enough people. ive met people that cant drift, plain and simple, after many events trying. they just cannot do it. a million dollars wouldnt change that. so your saying Ryan Tureck is a pro cuz hes loaded?

money helps but you have to be better than the next guy/girl to make a name for yourself.

Money can put a punk in the spotlight. A winner can perform and stay there. Most people that ended up winners were underdogs, and so they had a hard time raising money and getting into events (all things in life), and so they have spent more time practicing, focusing, and considering exactly what it takes to truly succeed.
I know the underdog life. It is my life.

Well, who ever drives and drifts the safest, I guess.
