Thanks for the info man, only problem I had was with your ecu pinout help. I hooked up my SAFC2 today and wired everything properlly (according to you) and the safc didn't turn on. You said for the SAFC power use ECU pinout 4, well this is wrong (I had to find out the hard way). Use ECU pinout #47 for SAFC power

thanks

this was very useful.. i just bought a ka-t dohc and it has a safc and was rich with black smoke and i dont have a wideband. i want to tune this engine b4 i get another engine so i can have a good tune b4 the lower mileage unblown hg one goes in. this motor is just to mess with till i can get the newer motor.

i messed with the settings at when i bought the car and initialzed it to yes and lost all the previous settings and just started messing with it and the car would not hold the rpm for even a sec after i start it. found this thread and figured it out in about 1 hour how to use the damn thing and now the car is drivable again and runs better than when i bought it but still bogs like hell when wot in boost.

one thing i wanna add is that i think the in out setting for sensor type is in=2 out=5 for a ka-t with a z32 maf. as i see some of u use in 1 out 6 for the same maf. can someone confirm this.. also i'im still learning about dec air and other stuff.

also anybody with a used wideband that works well for begginers that has datalogging so i can tune it..

ohh yeah i dont care if i run lean on this setup and blow my motor but i rather keep it alive so i can mess with tuning

ohh yeah this should be a sticky but with a warning to people that these setting may not work with there setup and they should do research
i read this thread many times and always gotta search for it. i read this again and again cause u always miss something and get better and understand more as u get used to the safc

Post by jmss123 »

Hi, i just instaled a 370cc injectors set and an Used Apexi´s SAFC but i dont have a clue how to adjust and tune it, so please somebody who has a set up like me can help sending me your SAFC settings, for the moment Dyno or Wideband tuning is not possible for location and money problems, i know that each car and SAFC settings are different, but i just need to have a general idea until i can go to a Dyno.

This is my Set up.

-1997 240sx
-KA24DE engine.
-Stock MAF and ECU.
-T3/T4 0.50/0.70 AR TURBO CHARGER.
-38mm EXTERNAL WASTEGATE with a 8lbs spring
-Intercooler 24x12x3
-Blitz Bov (open atmos.)
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-Adj Fuel Regulator with gauge.
-370cc injectors
-Apexi SAFC

I hope Somebody can help me sending me all the settings like
-HI Throtle Settings.
-Lo Throtle Settings.
-TH Point.
-Ne Point.
-Dec-Air Settings.
-SENSOR TYPE and Configuration.
-Car Select.

I know there are very helpful and intelligent people here that can help, so Thanks in advance.

would someone please explain the whole IN and OUT for when you change MAF's!!! its been asked in this thread like 5 times with no replys.
I just got my z32 MAF and I'm not sure which combo to use. It seems most run a 2 IN and 5 OUT but the car won't even run if I do that, 1 and 6 just bounces my A/F all over the map and I idle at like 11.5. did I buy a bad MAF or what?

so, for tuning with SR injectors and stock MAF, you posted saying to make both low and high throttle settings to -27% for all rpms.

but the ones you collected, nobody uses that, even when using the SR injectors and stock MAF..

what would i do?

and also, for the first setting posted, using the T25, SR injectors, and stock MAF..
the % values posted, are the all negative?

thanks.

This write up is very helpful to everyone running a safcII. I noticed a lot of guys running the SR 370cc injectors, but I dont recall seeing any %correction maps for DSM 460cc injectors.

Is there anyone here running 460's and safcII? I just picked some up off a buddy of mine from the states and would like to get them in the car running decent until I can get to the dyno to properly tune.

Any help would be great. Keep up the good work everybody

PAPAPUMP

460 INJECTORS ON A STOCK KA24DE WITH A 255 FUEL PUMP, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AT 30 PSI, T3T4 HYBRID WITH A 50 TRIM AT 10PSI

NE Point. ----High Tro----Lo Tro
800. -27%. -25%
1400. -30%. -20%
2000. -30%. -30%
2600. -30%. -30%
3000. -30%. -30%
3600. -33%. -35%
4000. -30%. -30%
4600. -25%. -30%
5000. -12%. -24%
5600. -10%. -20%
6000. -15%. -25%
6600. -15%. -25%

Do not exceed 10psi if you want to drive more than one day on a AFC.

KA24DE engine will advance timing after three hundred and the computer doesn't know what to do.

i learned the hard way and i'm sure others have to. take my advice.

I'm sure this is a really n00b question, but I'm using the PLX devices ECU pinout pdf, as well as the info found in this thread. I'm looking at the ECU harness from the back of the it, with the wires toward me, and comparing it to the PLX file. Using the PLX thing to find the pinouts, and looking at the pinout help info here, the ECU colors listed here don't match the wires in my car... Am I reading the pinouts wrong? I tried a few different ways, but I can't get those colors to be right. A few are correct, but others don't match. I don't want to cut the wrong wires. Is it okay that mine are different? I have a '93 base model S13 if that makes any difference.

Hi guys, just wanted to know possible settings for my setup and also I am very confused about what to use for sensor type and in out settings. I have it now at hotwire with 2 in 2 out. What is the correct setting for a 96 s14 with stock MAF? And there seems to be people using different in out numbers with similar setups, what do the in out values mean?

Anyways, any help with my setup would be appreciated:

My setup is:
-s14 t28 at stock boost
-Ebay Godspeed FMIC
-Blitz DD BOV
-Taurus e-fan
-Megan 2.5" catback
-ebay manifold and downpipe
-Walbro 255 pump
-SAFC II
-SR 370cc's
-stock s14 MAF
-retarded timing

Thanks, Alex.

ECU PINOUT HELP

SAFC-II Wiring Diagram for S13 KA24DET

SAFC-II Wire Color - ECU Pin # - ECU Wire Color - Function

White wire - ECU pin 16 - white wire - MAF Signal Input from MAF (You actually cut the ECU's wire in half)

Yellow wire - ECU pin 16 - white wire - MAF Signal Output to ECU*

Grey wire - pin 20 - white wire - TPS

Purple wire - pin 27 - white wire - Knock Sensor

Green wire - pin 2 - yellow/red wire - Tach Signal

Red wire - pin 4 - black/white wire - Power

Black wire - pin 39 - black wire - Ground (Further from ECU 1cm from brown SAFC wire)

Brown wire - pin 39 - black wire - Ground (closer to ECU 1cm from black SAFC wire)
I was using this to wire in my AFC last night.. but the power wires on my ECU are a diff. color than what it says on this guide(they're black/red)..
I wired in everything exactly as it said and made 100% sure that everything was in the correct pin slot and when I went to start up my car, my AFC won't turn on D:
I have a 1993 DOHC S13.. can anyone help me with my problem? :[[

In/out settings

the "in" setting is what ever type maf you have ON your car
the "out" setting is what ever your ecu should be looking for.

z32 maf (that's the n60 and the n62) HW-2
ka24e and ka24de maf HW-5
Q45 maf HW-1

put what ever number maf you have for the "in" setting and put what ever number your ecu should be looking for the "out" setting.

EX:
z32 maf on a s13 or s14 with a stock ecu, 2 "in", 5 "out"
stock maf on a s13 or s14, 5 "in", 5 "out".
z32 maf on an tuned ecu that is looking for a z32 maf, 2 "in", 2 "out".

hope that helps

SAFC II set up

Post by wyteboichris »

Ok so i know this is an old thread, but I didn't think it would be right to start a new thread. So..
I've been KA-T for a few days now, After the initial install i had to "rig" the AEM wideband into the back of my downpipe clamping it down because my DP didn't have an 02 sensor bung(which will be put on today and re-tuned)

My Set Up:
KA24DE
370cc SR injectors
FMIC
SAFC2
AEM Wideband
3inch Downpipe/No Exhaust yet
T25 SR Turbo
Stock MAF
1st Gen/EVO BOV w/ recirculation
Retarded Timing(w/ gun)

Questions (After searching):
1. I've been seeing different posts on this; In (1) and Out (1) or In (5) out (5) for a stock MAF?
2. My car sometimes tries to Kill when off of acceleration and out of gear: I.E Nuetral or Clutch in. Should the Dec. Air compensate for that, even though i have my BOV recirculating? I've tried adjusting it and it doesnt seem to help, i still have to blip the gas and then it will get back to a steady idle or about 750~850. Any suggestions on what to set it to?
3. ALso, I believe it is in the THR settings, when it askes Low and High, I have 10% and 50%, does this mean that the fuel subtractions i have only take effect when i am in 10%-49% and then Hi THR settings take effect from 50%-100%?

I will be re-tuning it later today or tomorrow with the proper installation of the wideband and I appreciate any of the help, im sure it has been asked before but i've searched and haven't found exactly what i am looking for. Thanks in Advance for taking the time.

great write-up , i have a 57trim with 555's and walbro and stock ecu with the z32 maf.. i did exactly what was listed for my set-up and the car idled good , but still really rich and when i tap on the gas it seems as the car is about to bog out and die , with the maf plugged in i still get past 2500 rpm so i think the wiring is fine on the maf.. i did have massive oil on my plugs earlier that was cause i didnt get the settings i seen earlier.. i replaced the seals on the bottom of the valve cover cause 1 of them was cracked.. but after cranking the car my previous SAFC setting was on and i pulled the plugs and they had a lil oil on em , could the oil be messing up the plugs and causing my car to die out how it is when i step on the gas ? im thinking of buying breand new plugs tomm and re-gap em and try these settings again.. I'm just to curious as to why it was listed as 1in and 6 out and 2in and ADD out ? i have the z32 maf , and shouldnt this be 2in and 5 out ? can someone help me ?? thanks
