Running Rich, Not Sure Why?

Post by CJ »

Here is a link to my build. Sorry its on another site.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/cj-s-build-t425480.html

So, I finally got my car running. But it is running super rich. My wideband says its at 10. Its blowing alot of smoke. When I had the turbo on i didn't have this issue. Now its N/A.

Info:
93 KA24DE
Motor is stock
Cometic head gasket
ARP head studs
All new gaskets everywhere
Ported intake mani
Emissions removed (EGR and everything)
Turbo mani with "turbo delete pipe" and full 3" straight pipe. No cat/resonater/muffler
Walbro 255 fuel pump
300zx TT fuel filter
stock fuel rail with stock injectors with stock FPR
All stock sensors
stock ECU

Dont know if there is anything else to list. One idea I got from talking with iLL Garage is a bad O2 sensor. Anyone else have any idea?

The O-ring on the injectors inside the rail? or the o-ring type thinggy that is kind of a grommet between the rail and the intake mani?

hell i'd check the grommet between the rail and the mani as they take forever to actually get perfect after removal.

Check your air filter or o2 sensor, Maybe theres a leak in exhaust before the o2 sensor.

An exhaust leak even in a turbo car shouldn't cause it to run rich, especially at idle! At WOT, unless it's big enough to let enough exhaust pressure out to prevent the turbo from spooling all the way, and he's on a ROM tune at a specified boost level which the turbo cannot achieve.

An exhaust leak that big would sound like a nightmare of a wastegate, aka a hole in the manifold :P And oh wait, he's not running a turbo at the moment anyways :P

CJ, if my coolant temp sensor gets unhooked, that's exactly what happens. It idles like a pig and blows out black smoke at 10:1 AFR

not the donuts between the rail and mani, the bottom o ring on the injectors, if they dont seat correctly (if you dont lube them enough) theyll leak fuel right past the injector and into the intake manifold. pop the rail up off the manifold and turn the key on and and check for leaks

I used a Walbro with a stock FPR for more than a year without any problems. I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

+1. It only pushes 2-3 more psi than stock. This will not drastically change the tune/afr's. I ran this n/a as well with no issues.

It seems that he didn't even touch the injectors so the likelihood of them leaking is slim to known. Coolant temp or something similar. Maybe fouled plugs. Hard to tell without knowing what's up or what he did.

Ok cool I think that's my problem
I changed my fpr to Sr and back to ka
And it won't go any lower than 48 or 50 psi
And Afr are 9.0 and it blows out black clouds during wot
It suck
Good luck with your build
