Tig filler rod for cast aluminum??

Post by ALTKAT96 »

Anyone have experience on Tig welding cast aluminum tranmission cases? I would to reinforce the case on my Bluebird AWD turbo. I want to weld some thick aluminum plates to the outer case because these tranmissions are know to crack the housing when you launch them hard.

So far I have only used 4043 and my welding professor used that same rod to fill some holes on a cast aluminum motorcycle fork. You will also have to preheat the aluminum before welding.

You are about preheating it a big piece like sucks up all the heat, I will use 4043 also.

This is the side of the case that I want to reinforce..
