Supercharged KA24DE FAQ Guide
What do I need to supercharge my KA24DE?
-You Will Need:
1) Adapter Bracket (Mates Supercharger to Stock Upper Plenum)
2) Adapter Bracket (Relocates Alternator for Supercharger Belt)
3) Tensioner Pulley (Prevents Belt Slippage On Supercharger Pulley)
4) Supercharger Belt (Connects Supercharger Pulley, Alternator Pulley, and Crank Pulley)
5) Intake Piping (Non Standard 4-Bolt Flange on Supercharger to Throttle Body)
6) Throttle Body Mount (Must Relocate Stock Throttle Body & Cable)
7) Eaton M62 Supercharger
8) Oil Filter Remote Mount (Some Filters MAY Clear / Dependent on Adapter Plate Thickness)
9) Remote Mount IAVC & AAC Location (Or You Can Discard)
10) Larger Injectors (370cc Sidefeeds @ Minimum On Stock Boost)
11) Larger Output Fuel Pump (Walboro 255lph)
12) Tune (NIStune Real Time Tuning or JWT Bench Tune, etc)
13) Clutch (Needs To Support Atleast 250wtq)
-You May Want:
1) Q45 Throttle Body
2) Larger MAF (Z32 or Q45)
3) Water Injection (HIGHLY Recommended / Necessary Above Stock Boost)
4) High Boost Pulley
5) Wideband O2 (A Must For Real Time Tuning)
6) Free Flowing Exhaust (3” Piping / No Cat)
7) Aftermarket Camshafts and Cam Gears (JWT Redrilled Gears & BC Stage 2 Cams For Example)
8) DEI Fuel Line Heat Wrap & Fuel Filter Relocation (May Get Hot Near S/C)
What Supercharger Do I Need?
- Typically, the Eaton M62 supercharger is used on the KA. It can be found on the Nissan Xterra and Nissan Frontier from the factory on the supercharged V6 models.
Does the Supercharger Need Any Modifications To Fit/Function Properly?
- Probably. The bypass valve opening is flush with the top of the supercharger. Therefore, you will need to grind some of the bypass valve chamber away or drill holes in it to allow for air to enter the chamber when the valve actuates.
Who Makes These Adapter Kits?
-Visit KA24DER.com for the newest kit for details and in-depth pricing.
-Thomas Knight used to produce kits, but are now discontinued.
Whats The Difference Between The Two Kits?
-In my opinion, the 5 key advantages are:
1a) KA24DER kit has a CNCd aluminum alternator bracket that has been FEA tested
1b) Thomas Knight Kit uses a piece of drilled flat steel
2a) KA24DER kit has IACV and AAC mounts built in to the Adapter Plate
2b) Thomas Knight Kit requires you to remote mount these in an already cramped area
3a) KA24DER kit has radiused plenum ports for smoother airflow and tapped vac sources and includes all OEM gaskets
3b) Thomas Knight kit does not have any of this
4a) KA24DER kit has a mandrel bent 3" aluminum intake pipe with Q45 TB flange
4b) Thomas Knight kit I don't think even included an intake, most are home-made
5a) KA24DER kit was developed by KA-T.org's founder and his partner, and provide great customer service
5b) Thomas Knight kit is discontinued and doesn't offer customer support
How Much Can I Expect To Spend On The Adapter Kits?
-A new KA24DER.com kit will cost approximately $1,200. (Supercharger not included)
-A used TK kit will cost approximately $1,200. (Including a supercharger)
-A used TK kit will cost approximately $800. (Supercharger not included)
**FWIW, a rebuilt supercharger can be found on eBay for $450 + $150 core charge.
Will My Supercharger Need To Be Rebuilt?
- If it has over 50,000 miles, it would be a smart idea to replace the supercharger oil with OEM oil from GM or Nissan. It would also make sense to replace the snout coupler at this time with one made from aftermarket, durable materials. These can be found on eBay.
How Much Power Will I Make?
- There is no exact answer for this, but you can expect anywhere from 200whp – 250whp depending on your supporting modifications at stock boost levels.
Will I Need To Rebuild My KA24DE?
- If you have good compression, and a healthy motor in general, it shouldn’t be necessary. A KA24DE has been seen to handle 500+whp on a stock block. But, for added safety, I would probably install a fresh Fel-Pro headgasket and ARP headstuds just to be safe.
If I Want Forged Internals, What Should I Get?
- This comes down to personal preference. But, I would recommend 9.5:1 Supertech pistons (STD bore or .020”), Eagle H Beam Rods, ACL Bearings, OEM Timing Kit, and ARP Head Studs. Underground Motorsports sells rebuild kits for good prices if you don’t’ want to piece it together yourself.
How Big Is The Stock M62 Pulley?
- The M62 uses a 2.64” pulley stock, and makes approximately 10psi on a KA24DE with said pulley.
Does Anyone Make High Boost Pulleys For The M62?
- Pulley Boys offers 4 different quick change pulley kits for the m62. They offer a 2.64”, 2.5”, 2.4”, and 2.3” pulley.
How Much Boost Will A New Pulley Make?
- This hasn’t been tested on the KA yet, but it is assumed that for every .1” the diameter of the pulley decreases, you can see an increase of 1psi of boost. Therefore a 2.5” pulley should put you at ~11.5psi, the 2.4” at ~12.5psi, and the 2.3” at ~13.5psi.
Will Underdrive Pulleys Affect My Boost Levels?
- You should only see a reduction in boost levels by using an under drive crank pulley. By reducing the diameter of the crank pulley you will reduce the rate at which your supercharger belt will turn.
Can I Use A Different Supercharger on my KA?
- So far, the only kits available to supercharge the KA24DE are made to use the Nissan M62 only. The mounting plate will be different for other types of supercharges as well as the intake piping. But, if you are into fabbing things, any supercharger can work.
Can I Run Water / Meth Injection With My Supercharger?
- It has been said that running meth with wear the anti-friction Teflon coating from the rotors in the supercharger. With that being said, many used superchargers begin to lose this coating by the time they reach your hands anyways. However, if yours are still in good shape, water injection could be used with no adverse affects to the coating.
What Mix Should I Run Of Water/Meth?
-100% water injection will allow for the greatest intake temp reduction, but will not allow advanced timing to be run.
-A mixture of meth and water can be used to lower temps slightly and allow for slight timing advance when being sprayed.
-This mix can vary in order to fine tune your goals. (IE use 75% water, 25% meth for increased cooling of air temps with lower amounts of timing advance, rung 25% water, 75% meth for less cooling of air temps for more timing advance can be utilized).
-Your tune should be adjusted for meth injection, however for pure water injection it isn't required.
Feel free to leave suggestions on things to add or revise. This is by no means the end-all-be-all. More of a good starting point to help weed out some of the common questions that flood the forums, especially now that supercharging is becoming more popular.

Nice. I would like to get a list of all the part numbers like these. Especially the one for the belt to use for the supercharger...timbo wrote:this may be helpfull to some people the nissan gasket number for the eaton m62. Nice. Finally stickied.
One thing I would like to add is that water injection is HIGHLY recommended for a M62 setup. That, or an ECU that's fully tunable, so that you can take out lots of timing.

i will go check my belt that came with my kit, I might have the whole thing for sale but not sure yet, it's too hot down here in alabama for no water/meth injection. anything else i could look at whle it's off the car let me know. Also talkin to a CNC place thats local to get the CAD file you guys always ask for, yay..

Thanks for the input. I have modified the original post to reflect this. I have also added that the bypass valve chamber requires modification.adamky wrote:Nice. Finally stickied.

On a side note: I will be working on uploading pictures to help provide visual reference for each item.

Added DEI Heat Wrap for fuel lines under the "Items you may want" section. This is based on 'blacks13coupe' experiencing cracked fuel lines near the fuel filter after running his S/C setup for 1 year.

Thanks. I just got lucky when I was reading around and saw it on Ryan's build thread. If you find any more issues from the s/c on your car feel free to pm me about them and I will be sure to post about them.blacks13coupe wrote:Yeah i prolly shoulda posted in here, good call sir.
Also, If you have any pictures from your setup that you think would be good visual aids to any of the FAQ guide lit me know. For example, I am going to post a pic of my high boost pulley installed, an overall pic of what an m62 looks like, what the bypass valve is, where to modify it, etc...

Great tip. I didn't even know this would be an issue, but it makes sense considering how hot the supercharger can get.TryingToTurbo wrote:Added DEI Heat Wrap for fuel lines under the "Items you may want" section. psh, I don't know why you'd think that!kaspar wrote:lol,as if that comparison wasn't biased to one of those kits LOL
I'm just saying, the KA24DER kit has literally thought of every flaw in the TK kit and accounted for it in there design. The only thing left to make this thing perfect would be a method of cooling the intake charge other than meth.
