Starting a SuperCharged Project
First post and have some question. (Long winded) I have been on the internet the past week trying to take in as much info about supercharging a ka24de. Lot of the info is 5-6 years old with alot of confusing post. But did find some good info too.
The build I want to do, is more of a street/drag build(not a daily driver). Only want to run around 10psi, so I dont have to worry about water/meth injection. Space is very limited due to the fact that this is going into a '78 Datsun 620. I know Im going to have alot more question, but only have a few for now. Hope there is enough interest in, supercharging these engine still for helping me out.
Cams: I need less duration for SC? ( I cant seen to find the post that I was reading on this subject)
Usually more displacement is better in N/a engines but what about supercharged ones? Example going from 89 to 91mm bore.
Is 9:1 to 9.5:1 comp a suitable choice?
And the main question is for everybody that has a ka24e or de,
What sensor are mandatory for these engines to run? I know tps, maf, o2, temp, oil. but what else?
There will be no a/c or PS, just alt & SC, crank, pump. Will be running electric fans.

I have a supercharger already mounted to a de upper manifold , throttle body and tube, remote mount idle valves and the belt idler bracket I can sell you . Already has a quick change pulley hub on it so pulleys can be unbolted at will if you are interested.
9.0-1 is best but 9.5-1 will work with careful tuning. Stock cams work fine . If you are interested in it text me 2oh5 4two two 141seven

Getting closer on my engine. Got it into the machine shop to have it inspected. Im not looking to drift or drag, this is a street cruiser. Only looking to get 200-230 whp and wanting to know if I can get there with 9.0:1 compression, stock internals, mild head work, 2.5 - 3 inch exhaust and stock boost. IF not, what would I need. Been doing lots of reading and really cant find any info UNLESS Im going for HIGH hp numbers

That setup on stock boost should hit that number but I will say again that I and others have tried this setup and all who have will agree. You will be much better off to go turbo .The intake temps are just too high and if the tune is the least bit off you will be popping head gaskets and ring lands especially if you plan to run pump gas. It can work but the reliability suffers.

Ive been reading off and on for about 6 months on cam selection. What a mess. No absolute answers. So Ill ask here in my build thread.
Where do you want your power to hit(cams) while running SC? Low/mid or mid/high or ??
SC builds on this site show most people just returning to the stock cam setup (91-93 S13). Has anyone ran the 248/232 setup?

This was on pump gas, correct? Any detonation at that level? I only put down 265 whp on corn. I know I could have probably put another 2-3 degrees of timing in it, but even that was giving me some mild detonation, according to the knock light.nismoautoxr wrote:yes. Made 300 to the tires on 15 psi.

Cams for forced induction will need low overlap time with high lift. Duration will be higher than stock but not high like a naturally aspirated motor would use

Also look into nismotronic for your ecu also. Its really user friendly, your able to switch over to using a mapsensor and disabling the mafs and Iit has many other nice features like a 2nd map (you could have one map with 93 octane gas and the other with race gas and change maps with a switch)

Still haven't giving up on this, just maybe on a back burner, turned to simmer. Still getting the engine done, taking alot longer than I hoped. Then theres the tranny,drive line, rearend, body work, paint, interior, wheels combo ETC.....

Also still trying to get a hold of the maker of the ka24der kit. I know hes probably not making any more. was just hoping he had any parts OF the kit laying around still thats hes willing to part with

Not sure how you will go with the nos kits.
You may be able to buy a second hand kit from a forum member.
Seems lots of people have gone the sc route then changed to turbo.
Other than that if you have some fab skills you can try and make your own kit.

Engine almost done and bought a used used ka24der.com kit. All I need now is a management system and of course, about a million small parts.

One of the major issues I have to deal with is Im not running a PS pump and usually you get a ka-e alternator bracket and water outlet to eliminate ps. But the kader kit wont allow for that mod. And i really hate that ps delete pulley.

Can you re-route the belts to do away with the fan and PS belt altogether.
Can you mod the water pump pulley to drive off the main belt perhaps?
Or use an electric water pump and thermo fans on the radiator?
I've thought of doing both of these things on my setup as I'm not fond the the engine driven fan.
Surely a small electric motor could be adapted to the water pump drive shaft.
