cam recomendation

Post by julienmark »

Dear OJ,
Cam recomendation. Please.

1993 Hardbody 2600 lbs
Ford c4 Auto transbraked , yet to be determined hi stall , 4000 rpm on the brake now now
Nissan 9 1/4 " diff 3.7 Detroit locker
caltracs, M/T 26x 11x15, ECT>>>>>>>

Ka24e sohc forged rod,pistons
Head will has oversized valves and a clean up
standard 240sx intake with a custom plenum, 75 mm throttlebody
Stond alone ECU 1000cc injectors , big intercooler
tuned style exhaust manifold ECT>>>>>>>>

Probably a GT35 style turbo?????? AT psi ?????

The car is a strip orientated 1/4 mile street car and i want about 450 hp so i can comfortably go
10.99et ( sorry 11.01 i dont want no cage and harness ect.)

So what cam would you recomend?
standard cam has a " powerband 25000-5000 RPM
I dont want to RPM to the moon i just want whats nessecary to get the job done.
And do i really need a solid cam, hydraulic is maintenance free.

If you want to keep the hydraulic lifters I will go with the stage 2.If you will like to go with mech lifters I will use the 290 Duration with 490 lift.

Yes pretty much the same if you want to keep a good idle on a everyday car.If you dont mind some minimum rough idle you could use Stage with the mech lifters.

Would I have to upgrade the valve springs in order to run a stage 2 cam?

If you run a stage 2 with hyd lifters no.But if you use a stage 2 with mech lifters I would recommend to use a springs but is not necessary.

Have you had any input on what kind of power a cam will do for a motor? I would definitely be interested in purchasing a stage 2 cam for my turbo motor if there are any noticeable gains to be had.

Thank You for your interest in our cams.Based on what I have I read in your post I would recommend a stage 1 hydraulic lifters. It will increase your horse power and your power band.

HYDRAULIC LIFTERS
Stage 1 one step above OEM Cams.
266 Duration
435 Lift.

Stage 2
270 Duration
445 Lift

The difference is lift and duration as far as the cam goes.As far as drive ability you will get a little more top end with the stage 2.
