Craving Boost

Post by supakat »

Basically, I drive the car mostly on the weekends, which is great. But after driving it after a couple times on high boost, 10lbs feels like crap naturally. We all go through this and that is why it is hard to stay content with 300whp or any whp at that. 10lbs nets me about 285whp which is decent for a 2900lb car but when you feel 23lbs, it is sick. It is funny because when I get use to 10lbs, I have to look at the speedo climbing in order to be content or reassure myself the car is not broken.

I was driving my brother and cousin in my car last week and at 10lbs, they were going crazy. Once I set it to high boost, they were acting retarded. My hips were sinking into the seat at high boost which is great. I love that feeling. My suspension and tires hold well on the street amazingly.

So I am wondering when does one become content with power? If you are making 500whp or any whp that you feel comfortable with, how long does it take before you crave more power? It is a drug. You get that high but when tolerance builds up, you want more. If you are not careful and have a boost controller, you may turn up the boost without tuning or maxxing out your tune and boom, your done. Isn't life great.

only way i could see is when you exceed the power needed for your function.
If i can no longer control traction issues, i have too much power for the car in its current state, oh no, now i have to upgrade suspension and tires.

think you are in the boat where you need a slow car to drive around and have the sx to take out on the weekends so you dont get bored with it. ever since I drive my truck to work now, it seems like my versa is a f1 car (handling/pickup). its all perception. our problem is, we can make them go faster

Agree with that. I do drive a 2002 Explorer daily. When I was away for two weeks and came back, I got that wow feeling again. But after one weekend, it felt dead again. I drove to work this morning and pushed it 3rd. Felt weak but was accelerating quick. I then did a 0-50mph pull and it felt good. I then pulled into the lot next to me, found a wet patch of ground and did a brake stand in 2nd gear. Oh my, this was great. I will never do a brake stand in 1st ever again. I am even contemplating coming out of the hole in 2nd with a 2step. One less shift and my second does not end till 60mph.

Having an electronic boost controller definitely made me aware of my own lack of self control. The only thing that ever stopped me was spark blow out or going lean on the WB.

Actually no... theres overheating too from when detonation blows the HG out...

They say beer is the solution and cause to life's problems. I think the boost controller comes in close second!

lol, i have the same problem, 10lbs is good and realistically faster than alot of street cars but after you have done a few 20+ pulls 10lbs feels weak sauce, i mean at 10psi my tires dont even brake free in third gear at 60+mph, boring!

Try having a 80whp daily, and 2 project cars that occasionally work -.-

My TT SBC S13 has only got into boost 2 times with out me freaking out and that was on 1bar. Any more than that **** breaks :/ then more money flies out of the pocket.

I feel like this strategy always kept me wanting more, but limiting myself all at the same time.

You can always get a bike for some relatively cheaper speed but you always come back to the 240.

At 9 psi on a 50 trim, I find myself constantly staring at my tach to make sure my car is moving :? lol. If my wastegate wasn't openly dumped I would probably rarely realize when im in boost. I need to just crank my mbc to 15 psi and let my stock block ride.

LOL. I am still aching from the pain. I need to get some money to pick up some injectors so I can turn up the boost. I don't feel safe with these 1000cc's. I can probably turn it up to 15psi but I rather not for the just in case even though I have overboost setup.

You never become content with Power. I had a R32 Skyline GTS 4 with an RB 25Det swap, 740cc nismo injectors, T04R, Power FC and all kinds of other goodies pushing around 500whp and I was bored after about 3 weeks. That was taking it from a stock RB20Det with around maybe 200hp, going up 300 ponies and bored in 3 weeks. Now I am back in Japan with a JZX90 Toyota Tourer V with a 1JZ in it looking to get around 650whp and I road in my friends GTR32 which is around 600WHP and it was ok. I mean I had a decent time. Boost is like tattoos, weed, cigarettes or sex, you want it better, more often and more intense everytime...
